A policeman stationed at King Shaka International Airport has appeared in court on charges relating to the fatal shooting of a much-loved cat outside the airport's domestic terminal almost a year ago.

Leonard Buthelezi, 43, made a brief appearance in the Verulam magistrate’s court on Wednesday on three charges: discharging his firearm in a public place, cruelty to animals and causing unnecessary suffering to an animal.

He will appear in court again in January next year when he is expected to have his attorney present.

TimesLIVE reported in January that the ginger cat, called Boy, who had lived at Durban’s King Shaka International Airport with his brother for more than five years, had been shot dead, allegedly by an on-duty police officer in the early hours of New Year's Eve, December 31 2018.

The shooting was confirmed by the police, who said the incident and the policeman were under investigation.

A witness to the alleged shooting, cab driver Teddy Uganarian, said he was one of many people who fed the two neutered males twice a day.

I help stray animals. I would honestly rather save an ants life than that POS cop. Typical though. Incapable of of any human emotion, sympathy or empathy. I hope he and his entire family suffer and die slow painful deaths.

Why didn't you adopted it and keep it off the street?
Oh yeah you'll only run your thumbs here as if you're a saint but you'd do shít to help out these stray animals, go ahead and hug that worthless corpse and cry yourself a river.

What about that police officers family, are you going to feed them?

Nah, you won't do shít

All over a worthless stray cat roaming the street, only when it's dead you people will reactive as if they cared from the beginning.

If he cared about his family, why did he go around shooting a cat for no reason?

Where's the proof? Anyone can claim anything online.
Be a man and MAKE a DONATION NOW to an animal shelter?
Donate now to avoid another cat to be brutally MURDER by our police officers.
To be quite honest. If I ever had the choice between wiping gum off my shoe, and saving your life - I would much rather watch you die in a pool of your own blood. You're just as worthless as that POS cop.

First question I'd have to ask you is... what's the easiest way to get gum of your shoe?

You got issues bro. Big ones. Bigger than the cop currently in court.

I don't need to prove **** to you. The things I do is not for likes or for some random douchebag to think any better of me. I do it because I can and I think it is important to help unfortunate situations into better ones.

I don't need your approval to be who I am and what I do.

I'm so heart broken, I cried as much as the fake tears most of the community shed over this stray cat, the horror.

How will I continue living now, :-(

Being a vegetarian I would ask if you eat meat and then someone will say that I cause unimaginable harm to spinach and beetroot. And don't I kill mosquitos? Then I will consider myself defeated. So, I will not ask.
