A Kloof man pled guilty to 1 132 counts of possession of child pornography and received a suspended sentence on Thursday.

He was also given a R30 000 fine.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Nqobile Gwala said that 39-year-old Matthy Zondagh was handed a R30 000 fine and ten years imprisonment, wholly suspended for five years, by the Pinetown Magistrates Court.

"Members of the Project Spiderweb acted on an intelligence driven information and a search and seizure operation was conducted at Kloof on in April last year. The accused was found at his house in possession of a memory stick containing child pornography images," she said.

"He was then placed under arrest and charged with possessing child pornography. He made several court appearances until his sentence. He pleaded guilty to 1 132 counts of possession of child pornography," she added.

KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Mmamonnye Ngobeni said: "Parents should keep a close eye on who their children are chatting to on social networks, what they are chatting about and the pictures they are sharing. This sentence is a proof that criminals cannot get away after committing such misdeeds."

But wait, wasn't that article posted earlier saying how healthy sexting is for curious teens?

Eish man.... can't win. Sext, you fall prey to a predator, don't sext, you might get pregnant or infected by aids.

It makes me wonder where these children's parents are...

:erm: you know can't get pregnant from sexting, right?

Given the power of hormones driving a teenage boy I'd bet good money that sexting leads to real sex faster than smoking weed leads to crack cocaine ...

In some cases yes. But teenagers have been having sex even before the invention of the cellphone and sexting.
Sexting among teenagers is healthy - it may or may not lead to real sex.
Some teenagers will have sex, many won't, irrespective of sexting or not sexting.

Oh, and smoking weed doesn't lead to crack cocaine. Not ever

That is complete B.S.

The Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia (CASA) released a study Oct. 27 showing that children (12 to 17 years old) who use gateway drugs--tobacco, alcohol and marijuana--are up to 266 times--and adults who use such drugs are up to 323 times--more likely to use cocaine than those who don't use any gateway drugs. Compared with people who used only one gateway drug, children who used all three are 77 times--and adults are 104 times--more likely to use cocaine.

Just by obtaining it, a person is exposing themselves to a drug dealer.

Which is another reason why I advocate legalisation.

:p I don't care either way, just think encouraging it is silly, it's already happening (the virtual and the real thing), just let it be.

Nor do I care about weed, I just know one of the famous anti-weed arguments is that it is a gateway drug. I much prefer curing vegans using bacon; the gateway meat :D

Cart before horse etc. Interpreting data to support a prejudged position. The conclusion re gateway drug from that data is rediculous, for any thinking person that is. Many will off course just lap up the conclusion without a second thought. Especially since it supports - the conclusion, not the data - their bias.
