Drawn guns being the last resort? So they need to increase their own risk in being the last to draw?
First you assess the situation
Then you respond accordingly
You do not assume the worst and have your lethal option ready to go from the outset.

REALLY? Are you just forgetting to ask what he was doing there in the first place? Picture the scene. I am committing a crime, (trespassing and probably more besides) suddenly people appear armed and try to apprehend me. You are suggesting that its natural for me to assume that these people are criminals?????"?"
He's from South Africa. Criminal competition is rife. Just like sitting down in strangers' home ... :p

Incorrect on so many counts. He is suspected of commiting a crime. They don't know if he was invited, if the woman is lying, if he actually commited a crime, if he has mental issues or 100 other things that could reasonably explain the situation. And just because someone is caught in the act so to speak does not warrant the drawing of guns.
It's quite shocking how some of you guys think cops should behave normally. You're seemingly quite happy for cops to default to what should literally be the absolute last resort.

Just think about it for 5 seconds. Do you think the cops were ever in control in that video? Oh yes they were, when the guy was dead. Amazing police work. Didn't even ask the civilian to go back in the house for her safety that's how confident they were amiright
You are correct when you say you are untrained. Barely potty trained apparently. I would love to see your reaction in that situation if you were a cop. You are either full of it or your lifespan as a cop would be measured in minutes.

In short, you are a troll

So you insult me but I'm the troll? Interesting conversations on MyBB as always.

So 3 vs 1 against an unarmed person - only solution is 4 kill shots..... nah.

No, tasering was tried first.

I guess you think SA rugby players are built and muscled like soccer players? And you will take a violent assault of yourself or friend/colleague and do nothing?

All I know is Myeni got mixed up with the wrong people. I hope he was not involved in their matters. This is not what this thread is about.

Shooting in the leg - ever heard of that ?
Have you ever tried to shoot someone in the leg?

The three warnings and shoot in the leg thing comes from a case in SA law that permits one to take a life in defence of your property, State vs Van Wyk (if memory serves)
Van Wyk was a shopowner who had been repeatedly burgled. He rigged gun traps at knee height but perp crawled around counter and was hit in the head. In order to get off based on that precedent your case (in SA) must conform as closely as possible to the precedent case, hence the requirement to "aim for the legs" In practice this is very very hard to do. Anyway the femoral and popliteal arteries in the legs can bleed you out in minutes so they are not really less harmful unless you are shot in an operating theater co-incidently already lying on the table.
In defence of your life "aim for the legs" has no legal validity and is likely to result in your death.

The problem with tasing is that it,
  • Inaccurate
  • Your shot needs to connect with more than one prong, also penetrating into the skin
  • The discharges are inconsistent and it needs to operator needs to discharge until the suspect is rendered incapacitated without being lethal meaning that apprehension must be made in good time.
Here is the thing about tasers, no matter how big or small, it does not always incapacitate pending on the suspect’s adrenaline and energy levels.

Pepper sprays can work, the problem, that the good pepper sprays are way TOO expensive. It is a bad idea to pepper spray a suspect who may be armed as it may turn the suspect reckless.

It is not easy to contain violence.

In the case an armed cop is attacked there is a possibility that the cop may be disarmed in the attack and the weapon used on others. There is protocol into which I am not going in to, the protocols also varies.

Hard2Hurt made a good video where they test a proper pepper spray,

most pepper sprays on the market are schit, as well as those used by the police but in their case they have to use non-lethal types as a strong pepper spray may be a lethal irritant.

Ah, in those 5 seconds the cops now didn't have, they also now had to first get the wife into the house.

What else did I miss?
