Reading his wife's post,

They shot my king
1f62d.png

I was with him at 7:30p.
He went for a drive to clear his mind after a fun family day. His green card interview was next week.
I called and he said he was on his way home at 7:52p.
By 8:10p cops had shot him four times.

How can you justify that?!
What happened in 18 MINUTES??
What do I tell my babies when they cry for him????
He has my heart. I will never find a perfect love like him. He was indescribable. He’d grown into a noble man. Righteous but not self-righteous. Loving and wise. He was too good for this broken world.
He was born at Queen Nandi hospital and passed at Queen Emma’s hospital.
We need justice. They must release the body cams and show us what happened.
Why are three trained officers afraid of one unarmed man?
They just left me a widow at 29 with two babies in diapers you gotta be f kidding me.

I am not going to speculate anything, but listening to eNCA now,

Lindsay told his friend, which is being interviewed by eNCA, that Myeni went to the gym... Either people are making their own stuff up... timeline. Sheez, I don't like to worm into personal matters, but I am trying to cut through the racial bullschit reporting going on.

It is also worthy to note that the police released selective bodycam footage which in their view best represents the incident. Apparently the matter is still to be briefed with the mayor at which point more information will be made available to the public.

Been to NZ? It's certainly customary there for the reasons you described.
Yes but thats a sign of respect. But in New Zealand people invite one another into their homes. This guy merely walked into someone else's house uninvited (we call it breaking in/home invasion). Taking off shoes doesnt matter.

So what you are saying is that we should say nothing when we find someone thats inside our house without us knowing anything etc. Thats actually a crime.

Assualting an officer is a crime (let alone 3)
Resisting arrest.

If he didnt attack the officer and just surrendered, how different this may have turned out as the officers didnt have their guns drawn, and even when attacked they went for their tazers first. Only when that failed, there was no other option.

An older article, but really. He shouldve known better as he was from South Africa. Perhaps if he didnt move there, or if he stayed at home etc etc.

All I can say, the wife is talking rubbish. Something must have been said that made him go like this.

The only thing I was saying was that it might not be unusual to remove your shoes when entering somebody else's house in Hawaii. I wasn't commenting on the gist of this thread at all. I'll leave that to you guys.

At this stage it's a case of one Avatar has a more valid view than the next.

In that spirit, I can give this advice:
If Hawai Five-O's Steve is on the way, keep them on and run!
If it's Danny, chill and pour a glass of wine.

I hope that helps. ;)

The possibility exists that he may have stepped into dog poo.

Its only customary in Asian countries (not to bring dirt from outside inside the house, thus keeping the house clean). There is a step in the house with the shoes left in the doorway or in a shoe rack at the front door.
It's customary to take shoes off when walking into inyanga's consulting room. :) :p

Oh, I think it's customary in some pacific island cultures. In Hawaii, there's a chance some families are of Japanese ancestry.

15 pages in and the only moment of clarity I've had is the moment I realised your avatar is a cat and not a bird.

Maybe we should remind ourselves it's customary in most places not to attack the police. Only exception I'm aware of is in the leftist cultures of the US.
It's customary all over the world to not attack the police. A few make an attempt though. Even in conservative countries like Saudi.

So at what second in the video should their actions have deviated and how should it have deviated?

I think that's not necessarily the right question. The sequence of events started with police training, terms of engagement, and the contents of the 911 call.

There are way too many unknowns in this story to jump to conclusions, and mistakes were clearly made on both sides. I personally wouldn't take the evidence of the screaming woman too literally, and it seems to have escalated the whole situation. There could easily be a case of mistaken identity (man, house, car).

Asked another way: In what world is it OK for police to shoot an unarmed man? Do the police have body armour? Are 3 grown men so scared of a fist-fight that they shoot their way out of it?

The story may change as more facts emerge, but way too many people seem willing to blame the dead guy, who is in no position to explain himself...

What I was thinking. They too quick to go for the gun as the great equalizer.. my wife says police in US look like they are scared hence the escalations.

Whether this is due to prevalence of guns in population or just bad training is questionable. Keep in mind just earlier this week video came out where they, Chicago Pd, shot a 13yr old for suspicion of having a weapon after he was standing hands up unarmed.
He had a gun

Exactly. You know what you know. Not taking it personally.

Nor any of the players on the benches moering the ref.

Although I think it's incredibly stupid to fight a police officer, one has to think with three officers vs one unarmed guy, is it really necessary to fire 3 or 4 shots? What happened to using your knight stick/baton or a gunshot to the leg. Or just one shot? Not like the cops lives were in grave danger. Its like getting in a bar fight and instead of your 2 buddies helping to moer the guy or get him off you one if them just rips out a gun and fore 3 shots at the guy. Police should be more professional or better trained to not be as trigger happy. Its their job.
