His punches were accurate though and he was able to floor all 3 officers so the flashlight as a blinding technique wasn't very good. Ironic how a flashlight is so effective but a tazer which is designed to be effective isn't?

Looking at ring doorbell cam he was standing at the door listening how she made the call to the police that it was a break in. If I was him, the moment I heard her being on the phone police, even though false, I would know the circumstances is not in my favour. In this situation he was unlucky the police arrived very quickly.

The time he listened to the telephone call combined with him reacting to confrontation with violence lead to his death. In that situation of knowing the police are coming most people would be one of two things
- submissive and calm
- or be full of energy and bolt after hearing her on the phone with the police.

He was the wrong combo of these two things. Calm(apologetic) and full of energy (fighting)

110% my point too. Why the fck do you hang around seeing people freaking out, calling the cops etc ?

So are we not allowed to speculate about why a man with zero criminal record might have done what he did? Am not saying it's a definitive account, am giving possible reasons for why he may have acted the way he did.

But yeah, lets not speculate.... :X3:
My point is there is a lot of speculation being thrown around as fact. Yet it makes no sense.

Is the women totally innocent? No, not in my view. But then again, maybe in her culture people don't do what Lindani did. Or she had a bad experience. Or ...

Could the cops have handled it better? Tbh, a tough one. Dark ... one of the first things is securing the suspect for everybody's safety, suspect's included. There are plenty of crazies. They had no idea who/what/why ... Identification? Personally I believe Lindani could see them. He was in the dark, the cops approached with lights reflecting off them or behind them. When the cop saw Lindani, he was quite close actually, an unknown entity. Yes, I believe he should have shouted "Police! Get down on the ground ...". But I doubt that it would have changed the outcome, just robbed some of an excuse.

Lindani? Something else was amiss that we still miss. He went berserk, charging and shouting "Why, why ...". This is the most bizzarre part of the incident. Something else is amiss. If the pieces don't fit, it's because they're being put together incorrectly or some are missing.

The lady even gave him the chance to do so by pretending to call 911 but he chose to stay for whatever reason
That is what is weird to me TBH. I don't understand. One theory after watching the question about him visiting people there... maybe he had a side chick there ? And he was waiting for her... (why stay on property after seeing you in wrong place/not welcome?)

edit: Another question... why leave wife at home when you go to temple/church etc? Don't happy couples go together to church?

Cop chatting to Lindani has his bodycam off or it has not been released and also failed to radio in that he was questioning the suspect. The last part would have de-escalated it from attempted house robbery or worse to a questioning. Then there is the little law that says you have to identify yourself as a police officer. The first officer on the scene can actually been seen backing away from Lindani as the other officers approached, as if to signal a threat. All 3 police officers enabled and facilitated a situation where misinterpretation and escalation was inevitable.

Add to that a South African that does not fear police. Was these officers not in uniform? I have not seen the footage but no one talks about their clothes, radios etc etc.

They were in uniform. Chief confirms it in video.

That doesn't mean a woman wouldn't find it majorly unsettling. He entered, left then went in again before finally leaving and apologising. It was very weird.
And what was the "let me see your phone" about?
As a South African, I'd find it highly suspicious.

I think as a South African Lindani hugely misjudged how things will go down in the USA. Let it be a warning to other South Africans - do not try to pull the S... you would do in South Africa in America or some other first world country. 1. If people call the cops, they are actually going to arrive in minutes. 2. The cops are not there for a beer, a chat, to f.. your g/f or take a bribe. 3. You are gonna lose if you engage...

The little I notice from the latest video, it appears to me that he did think he was at the temple as her removed his shoes outside as apposed to inside the front door.
He seems to be a bit fast to fisticuffs???
But the police did not identify themselves till after shooting gun (not taser)
Mrs ought to have kept a little quieter as she seems to have muddied the waters with her ancestral customs talk.
my 1 c opinion.

he does seem to wait a while to leave while lady is freaking out (and calling cops) though...

edit :

This sign is on most homes in Hawaii to remind locals and non-locals alike to take off their shoes before entering the home. To walk into someone's home with your shoes (or “slippers”) on is considered very disrespectful, rude, and quite simply, something you just don't do.

So entering ANY home... please remove shoes. Not only at temple.

Watching the video.. he hangs around uninvited after seeing his in the wrong place (and ask to see the phone?). And the house people are freaking out. Yet.. he stays in the house , walks out and hang chill in the yard.

Then he attacks people telling him to get down. He is trespassing, on unknown property ... and goes on a fighting spree. Why not just leave the property (quickly)?

As I pointed out in one of my previous posts, at the end of the day Myeni could have been and might have been entirely at fault (visiting a girlfriend, having a mental breakdown, bad trip, etc might have been the reason he was there), BUT the fact that cops so easily kill people in the US is a BIG problem.

And I hate the racial politics around this sort of tragedy, but it's clear there's two standards for brown and white people who commit crimes in the US. Just look at how Kyle Rittenhouse, a fully armed white man who literally murdered people, is still alive and around today, while Myeni, an unarmed black man who acted violently was killed.

But to highlight my main point: it just boggles the mind. Better trained cops could have dealt with an unarmed attacker. He should be in a jail cell for assaulting the police, not a grave.

Dude. white people get shot in USA too. I saw a vid where white guy hands are raised in car accident and cops shoot him. People were debating on reddit about only non-whites being shot.. and then people posted white people getting shot too.

Some are wild I agree. Hence.. you don't play with the cops there. Someone phones the cops.. You fcking move.

Well.. you attack the law, you gamble. You get 1) shot, 2)get away ... your choice. Cops dealing with crazies all the time. And they followed procedure....

I think the four major contributing factors were:
1) Language barrier when the woman phoned in to say they had a break in when she probably meant a tresspasser - this probably accounts for the cops reaction (they only had what they were relayed to go on)
2) He is a daunting figure - he is big and could appear threatening - hence the woman's fear and apparent overreaction
3) The cops not announcing themselves as cops
4) His attack on the cops

Yeah the police should have shot Kyle on the spot with his hands up approaching them and posing no threat to them. Whether you believe he acted in self defense running away from a mob or not is up to you but comparing someone actively attacking police vs someone approaching police with their hands up in a surrendering fashion is just disingenuous bordering on flat out twisting facts to suit your narrative.

Why is his 'visiting a girlfriend' putting him at fault? And what would you suggest the cops have done with two men down after an attack and the tazer not doing it's job?

Would you have advocated for Rittenhouse to be shot? Do you think shooting Myeni under the circumstances was the wrong thing to do? What would you have done?

"Better trained"? I agree that there were things they could have done differently before his attack, but when he attacked, they did what they were trained to do.
The fact that he got to put two cops down before he was shot is an indication that they were NOT trigger happy.

It's strange to lump all the blame on Lindani because everyone involved had a significant role to play in why it took a really bad turn. Those actions combined is what made what was otherwise a minor mishap escalate to a person dying.

Night blindness doesn't make you totally blind but the ability to discern details that would have enabled Lindani to identify who he was dealing with would have been seriously compromised. He could obviously see the bright light itself which he would have known was held by the "attacker" and you can make out shapes. He would have been able to make out human forms just not be able to identify them in the few seconds he had before he was shot.

Being night blind probably increased the degree of his response because when faced with unknown potentially lethal assailants it's natural to use maximum force, just as the police did in response to his attacks.

Yeah, but cops in the US tend to treat white people with kid gloves more often than not. Did you see the story with that black US marine who was driving with his dog and got pulled over for absolutely no reason? You should listen to the way some cops talk to black people, regardless of their education/socio-economic status, let alone how they assault them with little to no reason because the laws regarding police brutality provide many of them with a "get out of jail free" card.

Well.. you attack the law, you gamble. You get 1) shot, 2)get away ... your choice. Cops dealing with crazies all the time. And they followed procedure....

If that's the way you think cops should act against an unarmed attacker that's messed up. Other countries do not follow this insane way of thinking.

By way of contrast, in Norway, which I pick because it is a nation with high gun ownership, the police in 2019 armed themselves and displayed weapons 42 times, and fired two guns once each, and no one was killed. Few Americans even realize that “A police officer does not have to shoot to kill and, in several countries, a police officer does not even have to carry a gun. In Norway, Iceland, New Zealand, Britain, and Ireland, police officers generally do not carry firearms.”4

Also, if you read the article I posted earlier you'll see how cops in other countries go through months of training JUST for dealing with unarmed assailants. Not 6 months from average Joe/Jane to "ready to serve".

Yeah the police should have shot Kyle on the spot with his hands up approaching them and posing no threat to them.

Others have died while being no threat to the police, and they didn't even have any weapons. The fact that the cops didn't even stop him, a highly armed individual, during a massive protest is insane.
