I haven't revisited this since the Honolulu Police Commission took their time with this case, and I see earlier this month it has been approved that the state, or otherwise taxpayers, will burden the police's legal bills, but I see there has been a rather odd development in the case,

New body cam video shows bizarre encounter before fatal police shooting in Nuuanu

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The bizarre behavior of a man later shot by Honolulu police was documented on a body camera video obtained by Hawaii News Now.

On April 14, an hour before a fight with police officers in Nuuanu, Lindani Myeni had a strange encounter with police in the parking lot of Kewalo Basin. Several officers were responding to a report of a car break in. Myeni had nothing to do with this case, but happened to be there.

The body camera video starts with an officer who just arrived on scene about 7:40 p.m. He is startled because Myeni tries to get into the patrol car.

“I was walking this way and I thought I should get in. I thought wrong, I’m sorry,” Myeni said to the officer, who asks him to get away from the car. The officer and Myeni are both polite and respectful throughout the exchange, which lasts about three minutes.

After the officer exists the car, Myeni walks up to him.

“Can I help you?” the officer asked.

“I was driven by a car and got me here,” Myeni answered.

The officer then asks Myeni to back up 6 feet because he is not wearing a mask.

Myeni goes to his car to retrieve a face mask.

The strange encounter gets even more puzzling when Myeni returns.

“Do you need help with something?” the officer asked.

“I need to find a boat or some way to meet people,” Myeni answered.

He said he was looking for someone but the Honolulu Police Department bleeped out the name he said on the video.

The officer seems confused, asking if he can call that person. Myeni grabs his phone and starts dialing, as he walks away.

As the officer turns his attention back to the others working the car break-in, Myeni drives up and engages with the officer again.

“Bye. Thank you,” he said, as he waved.

The officer waved back and shouted, “OK, thank you.”

The officer made a miscellaneous report about the encounter.

there are other developments as well, like witness testimonies and his autopsy report, but it is best to leave this up to when the case is being heard in court.

The wife's version is that police are a danger to black men in the US. Yet here he is trying to open the back door to a police car an hour prior to his death saying her thought he should get in and looking for a boat.

Did the police do a toxicology report on his body?

Myeni remained in the home for at least five minutes, Alm added, despite repeated pleas from the tenants to leave and one of the tenants telling him she was going to call the police.

“He entered the home uninvited. He refused to leave despite being asked repeatedly to do so.”

Alm added that Myeni, who did have marijuana in his system, seemed to be acting “strange” and “bizarre.”

The prosecutor noted Myeni also had an odd encounter with officers just 30 minutes before going to Nuuanu, when he approached police at Kewalo Basin as they took a statement from someone reporting a car theft. Alm said Myeni started questioning the victim himself.

“As officer C was in his car, Mr. Myeni approached him and asked him money for food as he wanted a meal,” said Alm.

“My Myeni (then) approached and attempted to get into the back seat of the police car.”

Alm said that two days before the fatal encounter, Myeni told a kickboxing instructor that he was going thorugh “crazy African spiritual stuff.”

Well done to the police for killing this guy. He was clearly not sane at the time, had drugs in his blood and it is just a shame some officers had to get hurt in the process. They should have shot and killed him before any officer were injured.

A clear case of police brutality, and most definitely a racist hate crime by the police.

So strange. He seems respectful when questioned by that cop but is clearly not compos mentis.

He may have had marijuana in his system but marijuana alone doesn't make a person act in this way.

You attack and assault a cop and you die. At least that I do know and like. I remember back when I was a child, I was taught never to do this and respect authority.

Myeni told a kickboxing instructor that he was going thorugh “crazy African spiritual stuff.”

If only he kept strict adherence to the practice of raising the mattress higher by putting the bed on bricks, even when travelling overseas, the Tokoloshe would not have been able to get to him ... and none of this would EVER have happened - how crazy is that?
