A simple question, with a complex answer: The sky cannot contain more than about 50mm of rain at any one time (laws of physics). The key in a flood event is that it happens over a period of multiple hours, and that moisture is fed into the system (like a conveyer belt). This event is a type of cutoff-low, and has remained mostly stationary for the last 48 hours, so the peak rainfall has been concentrated in one area. The system will eventually move offshore, and the peak rainfall will move slightly south along the coast today.
I know... :) I was merely ranting at mother nature....

Well, my backyard is f*****. Minor landslide, covered everything and blocked my draina going to have to go and scrape to clear a pathway to the drains if they can still work.

Front yard is OK, some mud but the slope drained the water away, need to check my driveway and that neighbour's side.

Strongs to you guys in KZN, the radar shows most of the rain is moving offshore, but the satellite image looks like the system is kind of following the coastline.

The south coast is still getting some rain for the next hour or two at least.

I apologise for the wet socks jokes I made. Things escalated quickly and some are left without homes. Cannot even imagine the damage in the informal areas. Anything in the news?

Had a landslide in my backyard as well.. Nowhere near as bad as @Kosmik though thankfully.

Still a lesson in beefing up drainage at home, it mostly coped by the last 4 hours of rain were just too much

Yup... Hundreds of millions in stock, gone pretty much

I always thought it was mostly empty containers that was stored there. The floating ones seem empty but the damage from the collapse would have damaged stock in the other containers either way
