Ok so I have been on CellC 21mbps speed stick since last year May. So far I have had a few hiccups but nothing major. My speed is about 4mbps download and 1mbps upload with a latency of ~70ms.

I'm a hardcore online gamer, and since an ADSL line is out of the question (long story but telkom screwed me) I play online games on my CellC.

So far it has been great, very good latency and quite reliable, but lately I have been getting huge lag spikes on my connection, making gaming next to impossible.

This has been going on for about 2 weeks now. In my experience something (either high latency, downtime or no international connection) happens about once a month with CellC, but it is resolved within 2-4 days. So I have waited and been patient, but since the DoGaming League for BF 3 and SC2 starts in February this is posing to be a problem.

A simple continuous ping to www.google.co.za shows the lag spikes.

So my question is if this is happening to anyone else, and to cellc is this a known problem (ie congestion) and is there something I can do to fix this.

How far you are from the tower? What is your signal strength?

How far from the tower? I have no idea sorry. My general area is Atterbury Value Mart, Faerie Glen, Pretoria

Signal strength: -83dBm (using MDMA), but this is while plugged into my PC. I use a router with USB modem support, that I mount just outside my window as high as I can go and then feed back to my PC with a standard ethernet cable.

An external antenna will definitely make your connection more reliable.

In addition though, there may be a problem in your area, best to report all the necessary details here.

I'm also interested to hear Cell_C's take on what could be the cause of this.
