After 3 months, of trenches, more trenches, litter, unwanted cables left on pavement, fibre seems to be going active in my suburb. The 2 fibre providers are Frogfoot and Octotel. Which one would you recommend? Also checking various ISP's for the same speeds and uncapped packages, the prices vary quiet a bit. Any recommendations, would like to go 100Mbps, uncapped, but no aup of throttling at times when I need to use it, i.e. entire day :)

Octotel just finished my install in Lakeside (about an hour ago) I couldn't wait for frogfoot any longer they've pushed out their time lines 3 months in a row now and according to the techies floating the Fibre it may be a while longer still as they made a balls up with the network infrastructure in Lakeside.

In terms of who to go with well frogfoot is definitley cheaper you can get a 200/200 connection from home connect over the Frogfoot network for R990. In the meantime I've taken a 100mb/s package with macrolan over the octotel network until frogfoot is live.

Ok, but I have heard its not too easy switching fibre providers. Frogfoot do seem the cheaper option, but you wonder about performance, as you say they have already made a balls up with the infrastructure.

Luckily we have choice

Switching networks means a whole new installation IE running Fibre into the home again and covering the installation costs if there are any . As for performance frogfoot are notorious for poor international performance whereas octotel have a bad rep for poor performance during peak hours, only time will tell which performs better in our area, but at least we have a choice most suburbs are stuck with 1 option.

How things going with your Octotel line in Lakeside? Hows peak time, any sign of the issues experienced in other areas? Thanks

Honestly, it's been awesome there have been 2 incidents of downtime but that was a DFA issue. My speeds are always consistent irrespective of the time of day typically 95/25 locally and 85/20 internationally over wifi if I switch over to a wired connection my speeds usually exceed 100/25. So in my opinion, Octotel and Macrolan have both been great.

Our neighbors in Kirstenhof seem to be having issues with the Frogfoot network as of late however with the larger majority of them using Macrolan as their ISP.

Macrolan is owned by Seacom - so be prepared for Seacom dowm times.

Sister had Macrolan in Kirstenhof with FF worst combo. Slow international via Seacom

So it just gets later and later

Yip , they have delayed for five months in a row now. Apparently there was a screw up with the initial network installation that they now had to go back and fix , and since they lost the go live race to Octotel they now have no reason to hurry since most of the customers have been taken already.
