I noticed on my Novatell U740, and now again on my new Huwaii, an option to use as a wireless network. I suppose the option is really on the dashboard. Can I use this card to connect to a laptop via wireless connection?

Here is my setup: I have 3 desktops and 1 laptop connected on a standard wired LAN through a hub. One of the desktops runs my 3G connection, which is shared so that all 4 computers have internet access through the 3G connection. Here is my question: I have another laptop we use in the office - but there isn't really space for another workstation near a network point (I usually plug it in using the other laptop's LAN cable). Would it be possible to connect this laptop to my existing network by using it's built in wireless LAN and the wireless function on my Huwaii?

AFAIK the Hauwei doesn't support WLAN. The only newer (3G + HSDPA) cards I've seen that has 3g/hsdpa+wlan is the SonyEricsson GC99 which is not available in ZA yet. Only GC85's. If your lucky.

I noticed my mothers laptop also giving the option for WLAN on the dashboard. Her old laptop (with the same 3g card) didn't...so all I can think is that it's the built in WLAN *her new laptop is a centrino*

It seems the dashboard is picking up the built in wlan card...and allows you to connect. Then again, it could be the new version of the vodacom software...
