Currently sitting at the Langlaagte licensing department waiting for my number to be called. Thought I'd share some information.

1. Address: 96 Main Reef Rd, Johannesburg 2025, South Africa
http://m.google.com/u/m/dTx33O or less accurately corner Church and Main Reef.

2. Times: 8am-3pm

3. You need a copy of your ID and obviously your id. Copies can
be made at R3 at the Spaza shop in the corner of the complex as you drive in.

4. Try to get the forms and fill them in before hand. RLV (blue) and notice of change of ownership (yellow). There are people at the station who will help you with the details, at a small tip (which might be a con, but for ten bucks, they take the guess work out of this exercise, and ensure you're not turned away at the counter). On the RLV you're the title holder.

4. Take all completed forms and id copy to first counter on the left. You'll then be given a number, and you'll have to wait to be called.

5.Give in your number to the same counter and get back your approved forms.

6. Submit the forms to the opposite counter, and pay R120 cash.

7. Next time pay a queue for you service even if you have nothing to do that day. Or you can be a dummy.

Total time if you have everything is about which 45 mins which is not bad.

Whenever I go to a government department I try to phone ahead to find out their operating hours and whether they're online, although the almost neevr answer their phones. I also make sure I have the following (even if not required):
1. ID
2. Copy of ID
3. Drivers License
4. Copy of Drivers License
5. Proof of Address (Not ever required but just to be safe)
6. Passport Photos x 4 (B&W)
7. Pen
8. Enough cash to pay the licensing fees
9. A good deal of patience
10. Video Camera (phone) to record any corruption :whistling:

Also, don't forget to turn off your proximity alert, because your fellow citizens don't seem to know how to respect personal space at government departments

Sorry for the necro...

A photocopy of your ID is now R5 and the shop is across the road in a seedy looking "complex". Someone standing at the gate of the licensing department insisted he take me to the photocopy place when I could clearly see where it was. I had visions of my wallet getting snatched so I changed my mind to get my photocopy done.
I still will have to go through this process though (Car is now paid up so its change of ownership from bank to me) but I will be more prepared next time.
Cash will be separate to wallet incase of offlineness.
