I used to have a SE T630 which i've used a huge amount with the bluetooth on my laptop to get GPRS internet...

Got my upgrade recently - a SE K750i - and wanted to hop on the net with my laptop.
So I paired the new device to my bluetooth, cut-n-paste the modem initialization string from the old modem device to the new one and setup the new device as the default in the dialer...

Now i get
"Error 692: There was a hardware failure in the modem (or other connecting device)"

I've checked the modem diagnostics tab amd there seems to be no problems there - so what have i missed?

can you send data ovr your blue tooth with another device ie another phone?

it seems like your the bluetooth port on your phone is the problem.

I have the same problem with my W900i; bluetooth internet access worked fine on my old T610, but no go with the new phone. Connecting via the USB cable works, so it's clearly a bluetooth and/or driver problem.

Perhaps the newer SE phones need an updated bluetooth modem driver cf. the standard Windows-supplied one?

Try doing it without the init string.

Get the latest Mobile Networking Wizard off SonyE website.

Don't forget to reboot your phone. Necessary for Sonys - not so much for Nokias ;)

I'm pretty sure the Bluetooth is fine - I used it to sync my phonebook and various other stuff that i needed to move across to the new phone...
Alsa did a couple of 'AT' modem string diagnostics and there seemed to be a response from the phone - can't tell you if its right though.

I tried it without the INIT string - and it 'connects' but you are not given any access to anything without a APN. I think that there is a firewall that locks you out on the Vodacom side or something.

Also tried all of the above with the USB cable and no luck with that either.

Whats this Wizard you talking about Skeptik? I can't find anything on the CD I got with the phone...

take the INIT string off and set the connection to dial *99***2# . if that doesnt work then use the cable rather to connect up. alot less things can go wrong.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH :D I used to use *99***1# - so i'm guessing that the number at the end is choosing which APN to use from the phone?? Since the K750i is a Vlive phone - Vlive is APN 1 and internet is APN 2.....

I was thinking that was what i might have to do - cause i noticed that the phone was reporting all its APN's when i did diagnostics.... just had no idea how to force the phone to pick the APN.

Well it all seems to be working beautifully now - thanx guys :D

[edit]
And using that correct dial up number - its working fine through the bluetooth now as well :D

Glad it's working. - The Mobile Networking Wizard is part of the data package on the Sony CD. It installs the modem, the data drive, the OBEX interface, the USB connection - all separate things. The CD for the later Sonys (W800i etc) has a better 'dashboard' type connection wizard.

Yes, on Mtn you can put in *99# but it actually dials a different number, depending on the entry inside the phone.
