Hi there

Is it possible to upgrade a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo 7830D laptop from a celeron to a true pentium?

Or will it be best to buy a brand new lappy?

Regards

well depends how old is the laptop

cause suppliers dont stock p4's anymore only core 2 which i doubt would work

so if it did work you would need to source one second hand

It's too early in the day to answer this one, but I'll give it a bash anyways. I've done this before on old laptops but wont recommend this for later laptops. You could run into the following problems.

1. Hardware incompatibilities
2. CPU is soldered to the motherboard
3. Over heating
4. Damage the casing

Fujitsu Siemens dint give much information on their products, so you're pretty much left in the dark. IMO, its best to leave the laptop alone. At most change the RAM if possible to speed things up a little bit.

If you really want to upgrade a laptop yourself, rather go for a Dell or IBM model.

many laptops use "upgradeable" CPU, which are not soldered to the motherboard. First you need to find out how the CPU connects to the mobo, either by opening the latop, or phoning Fujitsu Siemens support and asking them. Or do a google for Fujitsu Siemens Amilo 7830D CPU upgrade and see what comes up.

Then you need to find someone who may still have those CPU's in stock.

Think the best and quickest (and safest) would be to leave things as they are (after all, it's still working) and buy a new lappy when I can afford it.

After all, it still works, no need to fix it :D
