Hi guys

[-]Recently managed to blow up my patched/crossovered/bridged sound set up by playing Phil Collins one Saturday(my mother's request. I'm never playing music for her again. :D) [/-]

Repaired last year, and they and blew up AGAIN... Old age, perhaps ?

Anyways, that set up consisted of an old Kenwood amp with matching speakers (30+ years old) and a sub from our HTS with some other parts. As you can see, this was quite a mix and match with whatever I could find. It sounded good (at least, it was to me) and was nice and loud (110W input power and 90dB/W at 1 M) with deep bass.

Now I'm looking for a set to replace this. Will be playing everything of my laptop. [-]I've seen a few 5.1 sets around and need an opinion on them[/-] Looking for 2.1s around the R600 price range now

if anyone knows of anything better in or around that price range, it'd be awesome. I will use them primarily for music, so quality is important.

I was looking at these :

Divoom Xforce 2

Divoom Xforce 3

I've given links to Comx-computers, but both these sets are cheaper at Esquire.

TL;DR : Playing music from laptop. Best 2.1 speaker set for +-R600. Go.

EDIT: Edited the OP from the original post I made last year.

EDIT 2: Could a mod please change title to reflect R600 instead of R800. Please and thank you. :)

The Divoom range is really cool. The bass is just intense, so you need software like SRS LABs to tone the bass down.

I am on my second set of 2.1 Divooms, first were stolen. Cheap speakers that pack a punch.

Esquire stock them and it's cheaper to get it there I think :).

Just what I've been wanting to hear considering they're the cheapest and the most powerful. :D

EDIT : Found them at Esquire for R499. Thanks, Teraside. :)

Why 5.1? more speakers doesnt mean louder.

I bought a creative 2.1 set for about R400 last year and they are very, very good for the price.

Not specifically 5.1 really. I guess I just got used to having so many speakers from the dribs and drabs I've picked up over the years. Also, from searching today, its the 5.1s that pop up quite a bit on the >75W RMS and in that price range. If there are any 2.1s that can compete I'm more than happy to look into it. Specs for the Creative 2.1 ?

The RMS rating is useless.

The RMS rating is useless.

Nope it isn't.

RMS is more accurate than just watts. I would rather go for a 2.1 Speaker set up as the 75 Watts on a 5.1 system is for all the speakers combined. i.e 30 for the sub and 8x5 for the speakers or something like that. And you are also only using 2.1 output when listening to music.

5.1 for music is useless.

I would got for these setups, if you want to listen to music.
Krator Neso02 2.0 Speakers (N2-20050)- 50 RMS for about R 500.
Genius 1250 2.1 Gaming Speakers - 40 RMS watts about R550
Logitech Z323 2.1 Speakers
Genius 3000 2.1 Gaming Speakers - about R 850 for. 70 RMS watt for a 2.1 set up

Thanks for that. Will take into consideration. :) The Genius sets look gorgeous(and I know that has nothing to do with how they sound :D )

OT and I don't believe it, but go ahead... Why is it useless ?

It tells you nothing about how the speakers actually sound, more an indication of how loud they are.

Example, I have the big Logitech 2.1 speakers - 200W RMS(I think), they're not bad for PC speakers but you soon realize that they have poor midrange. Big subwoofer + small speakers don't sound all that great once you've heard better.

That there. Its definitely not useless.

I do agree that power is not equal to quality. And I do want quality. Was just expecting an answer that wasn't that obvious.

Sound is very subjective. It will also depends on who you ask, the Z623 which is the "New" Z2300 has a smaller sub and bigger speakers, for a better mid range, and the PC Gamers hate it they want the Z2300 back as it has better Bass, the Audiophiles said it is an improvement on the Z2300 but still not a great speaker set, but gives you value for money.

The RMS is the only objective measurement for speakers.

Your argument is the same as to Say that Horse Power is Useless. As it doesn't give you an indication on how a Car drives as it is an opinion based.

I also upgraded my Divoom's last year. Gave my old PC away and upgraded to a Laptop as well, so I got these from Kalahari:
http://www.kalahari.com/Electronics/Logitech-Z313-Speaker-System_p_38931918

They pack a real punch and I haven't had the need to install any software like SRS etc. to enhance the audio quality at all. It's just a joy to own these. I don't play them at full volume ever, since they are really loud, but I do turn them up a bit quite occasionally ;) :D :p
