I have two clients connecting to a wireless access point. The access point works fine and runs 802.11g. They kept on being disconnected upon connection, and eventually I figured out that it was because they are trying to connect using 802.11b.

When I change the AP to b/g mode the laptops connect fine and all is well. The problem is I only want to run G, not b.

I only saw the laptops briefly but they look very new, so they definitely have b/g and possibly N.

Is there any way to set them to allow both b/g. The client says there is no 3rd party software for configuring the laptops. So its all windows settings.

The laptop is a: Proline w761c

The Proline W761C specs say they do 802.11b/g/n.
It is possible that the Windows 7 adapter settings have been changed... for example, my (non-Proline) laptop with Intel on-board wifi supports a bunch of wireless modes, including 802.11a only and 802.11b only.
Network and Sharing Center > Change Apdapter Settings > right-click Wireless adapter > Properties > Configure > Advanced > Wireless Mode.
