hey guys

organised wow and BC from makro woodmead on fri(good deal R499.00 for the set).
Anyway my latency typically sits around 750-900, is this normal for a 4mbit dsl line? my ISP is telkominternet. You dont *really* feel the lag all that much but i was under the impression that it should be in the 400-600ms range?
I chose the default realm when joining, "Bloodhoof" or something.... this realm any good? Are there different latencies for the different realms?
Also i chose to play as a human warlock, lots of fun, but picked up a "fire wand" yesterday and dont know htf to use it =) It is a ranged weapon but i cant use it if i equip it, do i need ranged ammo? and how do i set it as the default attack weapon?

ok on the latency test it for a week and see if it improves.
roll a char on a realm that has SA players on it. like twilights hammer, lightbringer ect.

Right click on the wand in your inventory this should equip it.
But make sure there is no lvl requirement on it.
Using it: Click on the little book icon next to your char icon at the bottom of your screen. This should open your abilities menu.

There should be a ability shoot.
Drag it onto your toolbar.
then just click that to attack(icon on toolbar).

I don't play on ADSL.

I have however seen people singing praise ingame for Webafrica as a SP.

Like I said I have no first hand xp.

One of my friends are on telkom adsl we played wow this weekend on a low population server his ms was about the same as yours 700-850
mine was 400-621 most of the time had like 1min of 900ms. But i am on a
mtn e220 hsdpa modem.

so its actually better to play WOW over 3G and HSDPA because of the packet shaping issue, hmmmmmmmmm.
And what about the latency related to realm issue? will the realm make a difference to your latency?

Yes it will.

I play on Lightbringer.
I previously played on Killrog.
Avg KIlrogg:700-900
Av Lightbringer:500-800

Get a prepaid unshaped account from Webafrica to play WoW. Should last you a couple of months if only used for WoW, and using your telkom internet for other web stuff.
Had 330ms latency this morning...

Furhter I would do what the above people have said, roll on a server where there is other South Africans. Check the top sticky post for where there is other South Africans. Different realms do indeed have different latencies, but what is 40ms more or less from 500ms

not bad, R125 a gig - could definitely do that.
Although weren't telkom supposed to do away with port shaping???

supposed and actualy doing it is two different things...
Though the telkom unshaped accounts should theoreticaly be just as good as the webafrica one.
Added that webafrica gives you the choice between Saix and Verizon, easy to switch between the two if one is giving bad results.

thats pretty handy, which has less lag i wonder? saix or Verizon?

I have found that Verizon gets better pings, but unfortunatly a bit more packet losses so the average latency tends to be a bit higher.
I am using Saix at the moment, and cant complain about any lag spikes at all. (lag spike = where the latency shoots up for a second or two then slowly stable out again)

if only they offered the do broadband in unshaped :/
although methinks the way this marketing drive is going shaped/unshaped will fall away pretty soon

Nickd - I am also on Bloodhoof EU. Lots of SA people there as well. Give me a /w sometime when you are online, can introduce you to a few SA people.

As for ADSL, I went with webafrica, purely because of the multi-realm switching. If the Latency sucks on SAIX, you add a .v behind your username and switch over to the Verizon network.

Lately I have been playing on Verizon more as the latency on Verizon was around 450 - 500MS where on SAIX I get around 600MS on unshaped.
Oh yea, my toon's name is : Rambozo
Give me a /w if you wanna get in touch with a SA guild there. Pity you rolled Alliance though, join the superior faction - Horde FTW ofc :)

Cheers.

i have a feeling that saix "unshaped" is not as unshaped as we think, lol.
Im still a level 12 running around in Elwyn i doubt you okes would wanna roll with me, hehe

SAIX unshaped is unshaped cant find a problem with that yet, but the internet route is verry suspicious...

the other day a technician came to the office to fix the line, i asked her when SA would get unshaped, uncapped bandwidth. she started laughing at me =)
:D

She obviously had no idea what you were asking her :p

"unshipped? uncrapped? what are you banging on about?"

pfffft, they dont care or know

the techies that come out to fix your line are really nice blokes, its just the callcentre okes that dont know whats potting ;)

another quick Q, where can i see a list of my completed quests?
