Too bad EuroNCAP don't measure the chances of another driver falling asleep and causing an accident while admiring this incredibly dull and unimaginative vehicle on the road.

Jealousy makes you ugly. :p

Its not a basic 1.4:rolleyes:
Its 118kw
0 - 100 in 8.0 seconds
Has tons of standard equipment
Its a big hatchback

I dont mind the Scirocco price, the MK6 price is a bit steep.

LOL.... come now dude, you won't pay that price for one... If you would then you'd have one already.

So basically you pay a steep price to get a 1.4 that's been turbo to hell and gone so that it makes 118kW when you can buy a 2L that makes that power and runs far more reliable.

Sounds good

You assuming the engines not reliable...
Ive heard good things about the little 1.4 engines.
In the MK6 most people wont be able to tell the difference, its feels like 1.8/2.0... even at 120kmph.

Lol!! apart from my praising of the 1.4 above, i would go for the 2.0T!!
Im trying to get my mum to buy one over the B Class... if she bites, then ill have my Scirocco!! :) and I might just take it from her...

Overall all car prices are bad at the moment. People are just knocking VW because they becoming to expensive to afford??

It's a valid reason to knock it... For the same money you can get many other good cars.

R290000 for the very base 1.4 model (scirocco) is :eek::eek::eek::eek:

Is the car suppose to be in that bracket?? If so what shares this bracket? 300-400k

I was shocked to see that a basic 320i (115kw) costs R 303 000. Unlike the Scirocco, you still need to buy optional extras like a Steering Wheel, Air Con etc. :)

This whole price thing is crazy..a 1.3 Corolla for "only" R171000, a Polo for "only" R220 000, a BM bloody W for only 800 k....we are n't in any position to be moaning about VW prices at all...they are ALL bloody ludicrous!!

On the 1.4 turbo story, a conversation on SAA many years ago with the then head of Mercedes, resulted in him saying to forget electric cars and all the hype that went with them, the future was in the hands of a small (1.3/1.4) petrol with turbocharger or supercharger and incredible fuel consumption and performance. Looks as if he was right...VIVA 1.4 VW!! :D

I agree with JK8...give me a Scirocco over ANY overpriced BMW or Merc any day thank you....because that is the sort of car that is going to be touted as being more worthy....

We actually had this argument before...

The cheapest TT is R390 000 base
The 350Z is R490 000
The RX8 no price on the site.
The Lexus IS250 S Manual is R370 000
The 2.2 Brera is R432 000
The Honda Type R is R304 000 - R314 000!!!!:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:
The S2000 is R435 000
Ford Focus R287 000 yawn...

With all these prices, Ill definately take the 2.0T Scirroco!!
Name another car with more street cred than this!

You can't diss the Scirroco. The 1.4 is a much better drive than the Golf 5 GTi. Yea 30kw less but better suspension and handling. Interior is better. It looks much better and it uses F all fuel. Revo that baby for R6k and you have even more power. R290k is a bit steap but it could never cost less than a MK5 GTi. R260k makes more sense.

~Proud MK5 driver :) with DSG :p

Lol you're good!:D But you said scirocco 1.4? That list contains real cars no 1.4's allowed.

Hahaha
How about a personal attack?

2.2 Brera... Ill give it a 8/10 on looks and the Scirocco 7/10 on looks...
Brera is slower than the 1.4.........................................................
Brera is R143 700 MORE than the Scirroco!!

OK lets look at its true competitors according to Car and I'll add price and 0-100 and top speed in for good measure.

Scirocco 2.0 - R 336500 - 6.46 - 233

Volvo C30 T5 - R 31300 - 7.5 - 240 (Est)

BMW 130i 3dr - R 359700 - 7.2 - 245 (Est)

Merc CLC 200K - R 378700 - 9.3 - 224 (Est)

Opel Astra OPC - R 321550 - 7.85 - 215

Now also add a 1.4 Scirocco to the mix at about the same price as a Mini Cooper...I think I know where I would be throwing my clams!!

Well done VW! :D

Honda Type R - R304000
BMW 1 Coupe 120d - R325000
BMW 1 Coupe 125i - R338000
Mazda RX8 - R324000
Mazda 3MPS - R299000
Merc C180 BlueEfficiency - R325000
Merc CLC Coupe - R365000
BMW 320i - R299000

I'm not going to look at 0-100 times because normal people dont race in the streets. Some are faster some slower. My point is just how in the devils name can you say nothing competes with a 1.4T? What about Opel corsa OPC 1.6T Mini? Peogot 1.6T? Fiat Bravo? Cheaper than the ones above even.

All i'm trying to say is that yes other cars compete in the same segment while you're saying thats not the case and that just doesnt make sence.
EDIT: O and i never said i dont like the scirocco, I love it would love one!! They are beautiful. I'm just saying they are abit over priced coming in at around R350000-400000
