ROFL - compete on what?

OK, compared to Scirocco 1.4 (Retail: R282000) on price:

1. VOLVO S40 2.4i - R284000
2. BMW 120i - R272500
3. Audi A3 Sportback 1.8T FSi - R277500
4. Alfa Romeo 147 2.0 TS
5. Renault Clio III Sport - R244000

Once again...I know where I would spend my 282000clams :D

Oooooo, would nitrous purge valves that made it snort like a dragon and window washer LEDs make it more appealing?

The Sciocco is a nice car but its not worth the money it costs. Given that it's a VW though, it will probably hold onto it's resale value a lot better than those other cars in the same price range.

Another thing you need to bare in mind

Euro NCAP’s frontal impact test simulates a car crashing into another of similar mass and structure. In real life, when two cars collide the vehicle with the higher mass has an advantage over the lighter one. Generally speaking, vehicles with higher structures tend to fare better in accidents than those with lower structures. Therefore, ratings are comparable only between cars of similar mass and with broadly similar structures. Euro NCAP groups cars into the following structural categories: passenger car, MPV, off-roader, roadster and pickup. Within each of those categories, cars which are within 150kg of one another are considered comparable.

Well said. Take a look at real fatality rates (the IIHS in the US has them), and overwhelmingly, the safest vehicles are large luxury sedans and large pickup trucks/SUVs. The most lethal are virtually all very small cars.

I disagree, I'd like to see those statistics because I had a look at this: http://www.forbes.com/2009/02/06/mo...ngerous_vehicles_slide.html?partner=msnafrica

And they are almost universally SUV's (Luxury or otherwise) , 4x4 and "Pickup" trucks.

Only Jap cars will have those...

How many cars do you know that have bucket seats at the back? :p

The thing is I do actually think the 2.0T Scirroco is decently priced... Its the same as the MK5 Gti... and so much more!
The 1.4 could have been atleast 20k cheaper.

Sure.

Take a look here:
http://www.iihs.org/research/fatality_facts_2007/occupants.html#sec4

Look at the graph a little way down, and see what I mean about fatality rates being lower in larger vehicles, and in SUVs. (I misremembered pickups; they have higher rates).

Then check out http://www.iihs.org/research/hldi/composite_cls.aspx
Take a look at the personal injury column, and compare the different groupings of cars; you're see the the more expensive and heavier vehicles tend to fare better.

Well if I was driving a MAC Truck, I should bloody well hope I had a better chance than some poor guy in a Corsa if I clobbered him!
