Yes, a truly wonderful thing happens when private healthcare is outlawed and the government takes over. Almost all South Africans know a police-enforced government monopoly administered through a vast civil-service bureaucracy will protect us from rapacious private doctors and clinics, ensuring the health of the nation is preserved. Mayibuye!

Leaked document shows the scary future of NHI and medical aids in South Africa

A recently leaked document shows that the government wants to “ban” medical aids in its current format when its planned National Health Insurance (NHI) service kicks in.

Woulda...coulda...shoulda...might...

Putting an inflammatory term like ban, in inverted commas, in the first sentence of the post, does not detract from the fact that it otherwise appears nowhere in any statements or communications.

The fact that the Rapport had a headline "verbied siekefondse", is no excuse as that is similar clickbait.

Only thing that needs to be banned, is clickbait.....

that would mean "they" need to ban themselves. You can make your won assumptions as to who "they" are :)

So who paid MyBB to write this article do you think? Frost & Sullivan?

I seriously doubt if they will get ANY business generated from this schitty clickbait article here on MyBB.

The mere fact that it may be implied that it came from them, should be enough to drive business away from them....

Also that article is a crime against journalism...

And I didn't have to click on anything to be triggered by that obvious "ban" bait...I just knew it was k@k.

You're skating on thin ice MQ :)

Remember we aren't allowed to complain about clickbait except in the clickbait thead. Apparently an infraction will follow if friendly warnings are ignored.

You speak of things here that result in a ban when discussed. I agree with you mate. I just don't openly discuss it here.

Hundreds of people have been banned from this forum (and from the DISQUS comment facility too) for calling out the sloppy journalism. I am not here to do that though, I am here for other reasons, one of which is to network with furries

Cabinet turns down contentious NHI bill
The cabinet has rejected the fiercely contested National Health Insurance (NHI) bill, sending it back to the health department for further work, it emerged on Thursday.

The bill paves the way for far-reaching health reforms aimed at achieving the ANC-led government’s ambition of providing universal health coverage. Its main aim is to establish an NHI fund that will purchase health services on behalf of patients from public- and private-sector providers, which will be free at the point of care. A key aspect of the bill is the future role it envisages for medical schemes, which currently provide cover to about 8.9-million people.

I really wonder how they think forcing doctors to work for the state is going to pass constitutional tests. How can they ban insurance providers? this is high-pie-in-the-sky ideals but how are they going to implement it?
