It's easy ... for a temp licence you need two photos, R100-odd, a photocopy of your ID and a form which you fill out at the traffic department wherever you find yourself. They print out the licence on the spot. The hard part was collecting the bits and pieces.

And I'm perfectly calm, Dave is just some pond scum so it's always fun to expose his lack of originality.

Ok. So you can go to any licence dept in the country. Not only in your home city/town? Never knew of that.

Had the same issue with a rental car and my license was expired.
Wife ended up driving the car much to her dismay.

Also my experience once with booking.com. Wanted to book an apartment in Italy but the location was totally different to the one shown and only realized it after the confirmation email was sent.
Lucky it as free cancellation.

So you know Dave personally ?

Yup, the Na part of Natis stands for National ;) Dem computer boxes talk all over the country, the clever things. I know it's amazing to find a South African government system that actually makes our lives easier, but lo and behold this works.

Luckily I don't know Dave in any way at all, apart for his poor substitute for a sense of humour on here.

OPEN LETTER TO DeZired Parking/DropZone Service (sent via e-mail on 6 October 2019)

Dear Mr Botha (and/or DZP Management),

Here follows an open letter to you, which is awaiting your response on a matter of great concern to myself (a past customer). You may wish to respond to it directly online by clicking here, else I will be happy to share your response on that forum (if you grant your permission for that?).

Earlier this month I made use of your parking services at OR Tambo, and was happy enough with the part of it that I experienced that I made a recommendation of you to readers on MyBroadband.co.za

This was when one of the users shared a disturbing news story from November 2018 that I had not been aware of prior to my selection of your services, in which you are quoted: https://city-press.news24.com/News/beware-dodgy-valet-parking-services-at-or-tambo-20181128

In that story, the reporter stated:

This is obviously concerning to me, as on your website you go to great lengths to highlight the security of your parking (my emphasis added):

Do you have a response to the City Press story quoted above, and would you be so kind as to provide myself and your other customers with a security assessment of your premises in terms of the below?

Does your parking facility have ...
1) Electric fences?
2) 24/7 armed security patrols?
3) Lighting throughout the parking facility at night?
4) A guard at the entrance?
6) Razor wire along the top of the fences?

I thank you in advance for your response to the above, and look forward to putting right any misconceptions which the City Press news article might have created about your services.

Yours truly,

[Name]
Well, Jacques replied to me by email this morning, but he asked me to not share his response on any public forum. Fair enough, that's his call.

Personally, I've made my assessment and let's just say next time I'm going to be using OR Tambo's long-term parking again. I've used it before and there is one set of bays that's not too far a walk.
