Hi guys/girls. I was ( still will be till the end of the month ) with Mweb but decided to make a move to Afrihost.
As I did mention before, I was throttled on the 21st of July after a total of 68Gb download on a 4 meg Uncapped line.

The previous day, I downloaded 10 Gig, but that only happens once in a while as i regard myself as a "non-abuser" when it comes to downloads ( this was drivers and a bit of browsing i have done on that specific day ). Suddenly BOOM...download speeds of 0.25mb.

My question now is...Is it "normal" to "judge" a person for only ONE day of maybe downloading TOO much on an uncapped 4mbps line?

Weren't you going to leave like ages ago?
And they work on a rolling period.... if you've got a moderate usage history, and you go nuts for one or two days, that can easily push you into the red overall.
Try openweb if you want to download till you're blue in the face.

...not AGES ago...i had to give ONE MONTH notice. I only joined Mweb 1st of July...but thx for the info regarding Openweb.
Unfortunately i haven't got THAT much bucks as i need a consistent flow of 10mb/s download speed ( or 8mb for that matter ).
Would have been nice if Openweb could sell bundles also of 10mbps including a discount on th Telkom line. I think IF they could do THIS....EVERYONE would go to Openweb, lol

...at the end of the day...I still say its Telkoms fault...WHY? Cause how come....OTHER isp's...when you use a BUNDLE....can suddenly offer you the SAME line ( which they OBVIOUSLY use from Telkom ), at HALF the price Telkom charges?

...RIPOFF on Telkom's side
...just my 2cents

Add the voice line rental and they are virtually the same price.

I left MWEB for OpenWeb.

This is the answer : http://www.openweb.co.za/gamers-king.html

We've been using one of their trial accounts over the weekend. Whilst my pings were slightly better most of the time, I'd experience random spikes and sometimes the internet would just be utterly slow in general for no apparent reason. Not that MWeb was much better. But I don't think we've found an answer in OpenWeb, unfortunately.

The problem with OpenWeb is that it seems like they throttle during the day, and I need a good connection 24/7.

I move around <200Gb a month, most of which is between 9am to 9pm. How is their Silver package?

I see that all their specials need you to sign a debit order, what a pity...

Or should I rather go with Plugg?

Main use of internet is YouTube and similar streaming services for 90% of the time.

Plugg and OW both are IS accounts, Plugg being IS consumer and OW being a reseller. I'm afraid you will find the same day time shaping unless you go with OW Gold (Original).

Ow wants me to move to a platinum package if I want to "download" during the day... heck, all I wanted was an account that works for business purposes.

Give Afrihost a try.

They are the lowest low of the bunch. They are not bad people but their products sucks. I was on them for one month of uncapped and it was horrendous. Getting throttled after moving just over 50GB, what a joke.

Don't know how they are these days, but I burnt my fingers once and that was enough.

I've done about 170gb so far this month with no problems. I get 5-6mb during the day but full speed after work hours.

Was that when they first introduced uncapped? Because yeah they did suck then. Been with them since the 1st of this month and so far its been exceptional

I'm testing a Plugg account and streaming is much better than with Mweb.

Lets see how it goes and I'll give you people my honest feedback.
