Was that when they first introduced uncapped? Because yeah they did suck then. Been with them since the 1st of this month and so far its been exceptional
good to hear, as i'm definitly joining them...although it shall first be on a 100gig capped line, and if THAT is too little, will move to their 4 or 10 mb uncapped...

I'm on the 4mb home uncapped and have used 200GB this month already, absolutely no sign of shaping. It's been so good I don't want to recommend it in case all those mweb abusers clog it up :p

They are the lowest low of the bunch. They are not bad people but their products sucks. I was on them for one month of uncapped and it was horrendous. Getting throttled after moving just over 50GB, what a joke.

Don't know how they are these days, but I burnt my fingers once and that was enough.

Well it seems like things have changed wrt this - according to their new AUP - they shape non-realtime services ONLY & all your realtime services stay more or less unshaped. Most of the guys in the Afrihost thread confirm this - so it seems the horrible throttling is a thing of the past.

I am primarily interested in streaming and during those same hours you want to use the connection - gonna try a test account from Afrihost to see if their uncapped has in fact improved & will be reporting back too. Will be interested in seeing your experience with Plugg though.

I have been testing out a Plugg uncapped account for the last week and a bit, and unfortunately they shape to harshly on their accounts.

I have had moderate internet use (YouTube and Linux system updates every day, few ROM downloads for my S2, etc.), nothing I would remotely consider heavy usage, and after a week they shaped the account so badly that you cannot use http streaming during the day effectively.

4M uncapped:
Code:
Download Speed: 444 kbps (55.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 533 kbps (66.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 33 ms
Fri 23 Aug 2013 10:23:35 AM SAST

EDIT:
This was a local speed test to Joburg.

Any news on Afrihost?

Am interested to know how much usage you did on Plugg for the week, seeing that you mention you need to download/stream during the day as well.

Also will come up for Afri here.

Sure they had network issues when they launched, they had throttling...

Then things got better and they moved to MTN and again...some teething problems.

Now though their service is fantastic. They show you realtime shaping policies which only apply if the entire network is under pressure and their support is top notch.

Been having ZERO problems on my 2mb account.

I have no idea, I can't seem to log into the Plugg client area with the details of the trial account, no matter what I try, but taking my Mweb account into consideration (I did not change my habbits at all during this week) it will be between 30-40GB a week.

Was a Mweb client, on the 4Mb premium uncapped account, for the same price I am now on the Business Uncapped account at Afrihost, fantastic speed 24/7, no shaping at all, a few small glitches, but this is Pure Internet Joy! Downloaded 190GB already, mostly Steam games, these sales are killing me :)

Ask that Janitor guy here on MyBB to tell you how much you used this week on the trial account.

System shows you have done 80gigs so far on your trial account since the 13th.

I'll mail you the daily breakdown later tonight.

I was surprised to see that I used so much, I was under the impression that it was much less. Anyway, thank you janitor, you have been stellar in your service and I appreciate all the patience you had with me!

Any news on Afrihost?

Unfortunately Afrihost don't have an Uncapped trial account - I was told to use the capped 1GB free account to test - but of course capped vs uncapped performance is a different ball game.

But based on how Afrihost seem to apply shaping nowadays, what the guys have been saying in the thread & the fact that Afrihost seem to give you a 60 day money back guarantee period - I will be moving over to them for now. Will test it in this month. It was either them or Openweb & since Openweb don't have the bundles, I'll be going with Afrihost.

What happens if you aren't happy with Afrihost after a month and your line is with them? I would test their product before moving your line across. Best to keep your line with Telkom until you are 100% sure you're happy with your service provider. Just my little 2c ;)

What's the fuss, seriously. If you do not like Mweb leave. It is not like they are begging you to stay. Just like big brother DSTV their customer services is all smoke and mirrors. Watch how fast they responded to the minister when he threatened to unbundle soccer lol.
Mweb are not even reading this thread. They will just count the numbers at the end of September. if they have lost too many subscribers they will make some new product to meet customer demands. If they have not well it is just simple busness as usual.
When DSTV shafted it's compact customers with the whole series debacle, they adopted a wait and see attitude...
The fact that they expected more reaction from the BB forums should tell you something. Vote with your wallet and walk.

Well currently I'm liaising with their support - and they say it takes 7-14 days to migrate your line from Afrihost to Telkom - so I asked whether the transition is seamless (no loss of service) and if it's just purely from an administrative POV that the bundling takes place.

They also say it takes 7-14 days to migrate back & if that is seamless as well then I see no real issue with them handling my line. Both Telkom and Afrihost are pro-rata with the line fee -but I will report back once I have found out everything! If there is nothing much to lose, I will take the risk!

I cancelled my Mweb yesterday, going to give Telkom uncapped a try from October onwards, will see how that goes.

I've had a very good experience so far. If you schedule your heavy downloading for overnight and don't rape it during the day it will work out really well for you.

Speeds are excellent. They recently changed their throttling margins based on your download behaviour. I got throttled one month at about 115GB (1Mb/s line), browsing was fine & I could still download at 45KB/s. I changed my download behaviour after that and after 100GB I'm still in the green, have not seen orange (warning) or red (throttled) yet.

How badly do they shape during the day? I download almost nothing, so that won't be a problem for me.

I have not noticed anything, only experienced throttling the one month.

I gotta +1 that as I have been with Ti for a while now and I too have seen very little to no shaping at all.
The only time my torrents are slow is when the seed ratio sux
