.ru means their russian, just like allofmp3.com, and while they are apparently legal in Russian law, the BPI (British Phonographers Institute) and RIAA ( Recording Industry Association of America) contend that they are illegal. So what I'm trying to say is that any russian site is probably in a grey area legal wise.

Im just saying all this for informational purposes, I get my MP3's through the sneakernet...

Yeah, it's a grey area. It's not 100% legal, but it's not illegal. You're paying royalties, and not redistributing (or at least shouldn't be) and from what everyone I've spoken to has said that's pretty much all that matters. There was some law regarding bringing music across borders but that's been done away with. And since my numerous emails to Sony and the Department of Trade are either a) not being replied to and/or b) not being replied to with an appropriate answer, I'm going ahead and buying :p

Under SA law any music downloads are legal if for personal and private use. Uploading or selling is, of course, illegal.

You sure? First person I've ever heard saying this. Any chance you can provide more info?

I've used AllOfMp3 (works great!) and Musica. Musica is fine, actually managed to find a CD there I've never been able to locate anywhere else (including actual Musica stores and AllOfMp3). Cost me cheaper than buying the CD and importing from Finland.

But - the copy protection is pretty horrible. Why oh why would anyone in their right mind disable the ability to seek within the music file?! If you right-click on the WMA file and go to advance summary or something, there is a field set to false called 'SEEKING' or something. :0
