Lens advise please !

Just me the photography newbie again. Guys (and girls) excuse all the questions I'm learning...

Between the Sigma 70-300mm F4-5.6 APO DG and the Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR lenses which will be the best for a newbie like myself. Using a Nikon D3000.

I know I can compare them on the internet BUT I would prefer some expert advise from people on the forum.

Get the cheaper one. I've got 2 Sigma EF-S Lenses for my Canon 60D and 400D. The basic difference is the glass thats used in the lenses. Personally I think you need to be a pro photographer to see the difference.

I have the 55-200mm Nikon and it is a decent lens for the price. The vibration reduction function is highly useful and it has a definite effect on the stability of handheld shots at long distance. The blurb on the VR claims up to 4 stops slower shooting than without it. With a pinch of salt, I'd say 2.5 to 3 times from my experience which is still significant.

It's up to you if you are willing to spend the extra R600 or so between the Nikon and the Sigma for the VR and what I find to be a quieter lens in all the Nikons, but I'd go for the Nikon personally.

Definitely takes a lot of the shake out of the picture.

Where will be the best place to buy the Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR from ? So far the best prices I've seen is about R3000 from Orms and FotoDiscount World.
