Johannesburg - Moses Mabhida stadium's first official match scheduled for Saturday afternoon has officially been sold out.

The Durban World Cup venue will host the local derby between AmaZulu and Maritzburg United and all 22 000 tickets made available have already been snapped up.

The ground boasts a seating allocation of 70 000 for next year's showpiece and was built to the tune of R1.6bn.

AmaZulu's communications manager Philani Mabaso expressed his excitement with the strong interest shown by the locals for this unique occasion.

He also said that it was very rare for a domestic fixture that does not feature Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, to be sold out days before a game.

"It is exciting to see that how the game has sold out within four days," said Mabaso.

"It shows the support that KwaZulu-Natal people are prepared to give, and also a feel of how they will be supporting next year's World Cup."

The gates will open at 10:00 where fans will be entertained by performing artists before the city's mayor, Obed Mlaba, officially opens the ground a few minutes before kick off.

Both AmaZulu and United are currently languishing in the bottom half of the standings, meaning that additional motivation for the fixture will be maximum points.
