Just got a letter from TELKOM dated 9/26

With reference to your application for the provision of DSL, I regret to inform you that we are currently not in a position to provide the required service.
The existing infrastructure is being utilized to its maximum capacity and network expansion is envisaged in the foreseeable future.
Your application for DSL has therefore been recorded and you will be contacted blah blah blah!!!

Thanks Telkom!! I wonder what happen to the telkom Rosebank DSLAM expansion project me and someone on forum was told which supposed to be completed on 9/18.....What should I do besides waiting now?? Applied on 8/24, they only inform it's not available 1 month later.

Only solution u are left with is the following :

1. Either wait until u can get ADSL
2. Go with telkom's other options wich are not 24/7 (ISDN 64k/128 or 56K)
3. Go wireless, There are company's like Iburst, Sentech, or even 3g(vodacom/mtn) wich offer 24/7 internet access. Also there are Wireless ISP's that sell uncapped 64K / 128K etc..etc accounts in different area's of SA.

But do remember, that Wireless internet access do have limitations. They are not as stable as landline/adsl internet. Also the speed / connection do tend to fluctuate on wireless internet. And are also the speed is dependant on signal strength/quality, and also on the network load or tower load/pool.

Wireless is a good option specially if u have a laptop, or if u like mobile internet access vs fixed position internet access

thats my 2cents

Sentech doesn't cover my area and no thanks, will not use their service, 3G out of the question, only iburst and tested with friend's modem, good signal and speed, only thing is price......Or if I am patient enough wait for neotel (don't think so). Should I escalate this problem since I was told there was a DSLAM expansion which results in today's "existing infrastructure is being utilized to its maximum capacity" rubbish?

Wouldn't telkom not delivering be grounds for a complaint with ICASA? I realise that's farting in the wind and it doesn't solve your imediate problem
