What's the big issue. If you don't like the car, you don't buy it, and yet you did.

that would be interesting because in 2007 there was about 100mk1's 1.8 which was a limited edition... they named it the r-line...it had no abs but the motor was good plus, the mk1 is like a feather so it was pretty nippy

Citi's are not the safest, but they are cheap cars and they are cheap to maintain. Not everyone earns enough to buy a 150k+ car. Since toyota discontinued the tazz, citi has become one of the few cars left for varsity students and people on tight budgets. Sure you can get a suzuki, but is it as cheap to maintain as a golf or tazz? I drive a tazz, and it costs very little to keep it running. Considered getting another cheap toyota, but I couldn't find one, so will stick with the tazz till I can afford something better. I think we rather have people in cheap but newish citis than running around in 15 year old bmw's with 300 000km's on the clock and brakes held together by dust.

there are very few options thats 'doing better' than a citigolf boet. sure some may have 'airbags' and warra warra, but few can really and truly compare to a citigolf.

The guy that said he lost loved ones in a citigolf? if they were in a tata or a Getz they would've probably also been dead now. people even die volvo's

I rolled my 2-door corsa a few years back on the N2. Myself and my boet climbed out without a single cut or scratch on us. No airbags either.

Argue your points all you like, all I can say is that I definitely would want to find out what the outcome would've been had we driven a citi golf.

I have a Citi Sport - no problems , good on fuel, reliable and great trade in value as well.

Don't really care what anyone else says.

+1

middle finger to those bashing the car.

I dont drive one, but its really reliable! most cars on the road is a mk1 from what i can see.

Guess it's normal for people to bash something popular.

guys i think more than the ABS and all the safety features that cars have people will always dies. it's GOD who decides when and how we die...... people die in Ferrari's and lambos... and some people walk out of those cars without a scratch
God just increases your chances when she lets you buy a Citi...

What the Citi has and does not have is actually irrelevant.

The big crime here is that VW has some pretty good and way more advanced super-mini class cars (like the Lupo/Fox and Gol) that they should be selling here in SA instead of the Citi.

Unfortunately too few people know about these great alternatives and blindly buy the Citi because of many reasons (all dumb) which I will not mention here now.

It's the driver's fault for accidents, cars can't cause accidents themselves.

I guess most people don't give a rats ass about safety, therefore they buy a citi because it's got no airbags. and probably cheaper than cars with airbags installed.

I'll only buy a citi for racing, and doing mods etc..

Corsa B (Lite) is much more modern and safer than Citi.
It is a better car in every way. If VWSA had the Lupo/Fox/Gol in that segment then the picture would be a lot different.

entertaining ready, thanks.

Skip Mk1, go for the other European options. Not a VW, but not as harsh in an "incident".

Found the French and Italian options (would I ever think I would say this??) better rand for value.

SOOOOO true, what does this Billabong go for?

For that money you can get a decent BMW or ALFA or Audi...why on earth would guys buy this thing ith Billabong on the side...they've really gone too far now...

I can only picture VWSA execs sit there in amazement, placing bets on the table with a conversation going like this:

Ok...so we've introduced the CitiR, they fell for it
We've introduced the CitiRox, they fell for it
What else can we couple with Citi???

I like your shirt Johnson...
Cool, thanks, its Billabong...hhhhhm, I bet 100 000 if we put billabong on the side they'll fall for it!!!;)

How many incarnations of the Mk1 have we had in SA?

It came out ad the Golf, then when the Mk2 came they still sold the Mk1 as Golf and the Mk2 as Jumbo Golf.
Then they started with the Citi (Red, Yellow, Blue... Not Green),
Then there was the Citi CTI, Citi Deco, Citi Designa, Citi Rythm, Citi Blues, Citi Jazz, Citi.com, CitiR, VeloCiti , CitiRox, TenaCiti, Citi Billabong. Somewhere along the line they fitted a Skoda dashboard, out dated EU emissions compliance and airbags.

That us like 10+ versions of the same old ? Anyone know of one that I left out ?
