LG G3 launch window and snub in South Africa

What the actual eff? What reason is there to not offer a phone?

Vodacom must just offer it with a nice data bundle, cos a full HD display will chow data when watching YouTube videos!

Must admit Vodacom is really giving you a lot of choice with new Samsung, Sony and LG phones.

*Do they offer the new HTC phones?

Oh, and MTN sucks balls, as usual. Maybe their product manager has never heard of the LG G3. :p

The official Android Youtube app actually still only allows up to 720p max resolution.

I'm pretty sure that MTN guy is just a clown in a job for no other reason than it being "a job" and has no idea about the significance of the G3. Besides the G2 has done relatively well in LG SA is competent unlike HTC which ironically MTN is definitely bringing.

I can only assume the LG G2 did not sell as expected on the MTN Network?
Unfortunately this can be attributed to the power of Samsung marketing and distribution. It's just killing the other brands.Pretty scary when you look around you - almost everyone has a Samsung

Just no accounting for taste :whistling: :D

Lol screen resolution does not dictate data speeds :D

Not your speeds but it can most definitely affect data usage, depending on what apps you're using. For example some games will download different resources for different screen sizes, Youtube will also not play at 720p if you don't have a 720p capable screen.

Yes apps might be larger, buy apps are generally large files these days.

As for YouTube, it's dependent on connection speed. You can have a VGA screen but have LTE connection it will still be 720p.

Yes of course it's dependent on connection speed, but if you take that out the equation (i.e you have a very fast connection) if you don't have a 720p capable mobile device YouTube will not play back at 720p, it will only be 480p which uses less data. That's what I meant.

When Youtube decides to update their app to allow 1080p then if you've set the app to high quality it will default to the largest resolution the device supports so if you then have a 1080p device it will use more data than a 720p device. And so on.

I never actually got a Samsung device before the S4 I picked up a month ago. I've had two Sonys and a Motorola all three were pretty decent phones but got snubbed the moment a new flashier model arrived. Also for the price I got the s4 at I couldn't let it slide.
Am I Samsung convert hell no but it's still a great piece of hardware.

Seeing Vodascum is the only provider so far confirming to carry the device, if I were on the market for an upgrade I'd either get it from them for cash or get one from an online store and then keep my distance from the vodascum network
