LG G4 missed calls

A few weeks ago I got an LG G4 as a contract upgrade. From the start I noticed that I missed SMS's and calls even though there was a signal. The phone seems to accept calls and SMS's and then for no apparent reason stop receiving SMS's and calls go directly through to voicemail and not show up as missed calls in the phone log. In some cases I can hear one ring before the call goes to voicemail but still no missed call in the phone log, only an SMS (much) later that there was a missed call. It seems that sending an SMS or making a call will bring the phone out of this state and it will then receive queued SMS's.
I went to Vodacom to complain about this issue and the guy there changed my network setting to exclude LTE. He claimed he had seen this issue with other brands as well. Since changing this setting I have not experienced this issue.
Although this seems to be a solution it is a bit like having a Ferrari that runs only on two cylinders.:crying:

I'm with you on this. Have the exact same issue and will try excluding LTE. Seems quite pathetic really.

Yeah it's a known issue where the push back to 3G does not happen fast enough and the call gets diverted to voicemail. This is not only a Vodacom issue but I have seen it happen on MTN too.

VoLTE will solve this issue in the future where it is not needed to push back to 3G for a call....

Basically what I thought. Although it does affect SMS's as well.

Volte should solve this. If you want I can activate it for you, but I am not sure if the G4 supports Volte on Vodacom. Volte was launched with the S6 and not sure if the portfolio of devices have been expanded.

Ok. I was using a prepaid SIM in the G4 for testing. But I can give this a go with my contract SIM. I'll DM the number.

Hi. Sorry for late reply. I had to leave the office early for a family matter. Logged in remotely and I have provisioned your Volte IMS. Give it about 30 - 60 minutes - reboot and give it a go...but you have to use the sim of the cell number you gave me.

What happens if the phone doesn't support VoLTE? Handover to 3G, call to voicemail, nothing?

It seems my handset doesn't support VoLTE. As far as I can tell those that support this feature have an option to enable or disable VoLTE. My handset doesn't seem to have this option. When I make or receive a call my G4 switches to HSPA. However the VoLTE setting on my profile doesn't seem to break anything.

Pity. I still dont understand why Volte is not standardized across all smart phones and baked into for example the standard android instead of being left to the OEM's to implement it. Very silly.

If you want, try this.

dial *#*#4636#*#*

Then see if there is a option to enable volte IMS

You go to "Phone Information", but "This application does not work on this device." There are sites out there that have other codes that you can try but they don't do anything. I think some people have even tried flashing different firmware. I won't try that. Maybe Marshmallow will have this option. When I have time I'll see if I can find some other non lethal incantations that I can try. For the moment it doesn't bother me to much.

OK. Worth a shot. I did it on my Meizu phone, and there it has a option to enable IMS registration, but Telkom does not support Volte IMS at all, so useless.

How do I get vodacom's 3g settings instead of LTE settings onto her phone?

Go to Settings.
Under "Wireless Networks", select "More".
Select "Mobile networks".
Select "Network mode".
Select the second option from the top i.e. "GSM/WCDMA auto".
The phone will no longer switch to LTE.
