I was at Vodacom World and just happened to walk into the Metro shop. They're selling the Optimus One for R1799, the other shops, even the LG shop had it for between R2200 and R2800. I must admit it was an impulsive buy, but after switching the phone on, I was pleasantly surprised. Apart from the excellent Froyo OS, what sets this device apart from other midrange handsets is that it comes with Ndrive preloaded, with one map free. It also has Thinkfree preinstalled that allows creating and editing Office documents. You can even insert sketches and pictures. So, yeah, this phone offers excellent value for money.

Had one myself before my galaxy. My fiance love's it and never fails to point out that she has the gps app.

My opinion it is the best midrange around. A mate had the wildfire and that screen blows.

Sent from my apple stomping, berry crushing droid! Samsung Galaxy S.

I also got myself a Wildfire on the Vodacom R99 contract as a second phone. It is a nice phone, has a better camera and HTC widgets are much better. But, I just couldn't get used to the low resolution screen. Luckily I managed to sell it and am now using the Optimus one. It's working well so far. GPS is excellent and even the first time I switched the phone on, it picked up signal in under 30 seconds. Now it picks up within a few seconds. Android Froyo is excellent and the option of moving apps to sd is awesome.

Excellent deal, especially since the Optimus One will most probably be getting a Gingerbread update later this year.

I'm actually liking this phone more than my HTC Desire.

I had to root my LG the get rid of all the annoying vodafone/vodacom branding. Ohh and 1 big thing. I am now able to connect to add hoc wifi networks.

Applied the V20E Gingerbread update to my Optimus One and it is LIGHT-YEARS better than with FroYo. No more sluggishness, better battery life. Okay, I had to hard reset it afterwards and setting it back up was a chore but from thereon it is awesome. No thanks to MTN who still maintains that the V10A firmware is the latest.
