LG has a special treat in store for CES visitors next year, a massive 55-inch TV that uses an OLED panel, the largest to be used on any TV yet. LG claims that the panel has a contrast ratio of 100,000:1.

Compared to other OLED TVs, the LG TV uses a White OLED or WOLED panel. Unlike AMOLED panels that use RGB subpixels placed next to each other, WOLED panels stack the subpixels one above the other, which results in lower error rate, clearer picture and low color distortion at wider viewing angles.

As with other OLED TV, the LG TV lacks a backlight, which makes it consume less power compared to a regular LCD TV and at the same time makes it extremely thin, as can be seen below.

No release date or pricing has been mentioned yet although to be honest, I’m not sure I want to know the price of a TV with such a large OLED panel.

The LED TVs that you find in shops are LCD screens back lit by LED lighting.

Would anyone like to take a stab at how much these panels are going to cost? Seeing as a small OLED screen sets you back more than a pretty decent 55" LCD.

I'm guessing they'll drop rapidly though?

Perhaps half the price in 2 years time

Sorry but I dont understand! They advertising it as LED TV how can it be LCD? Ok so tell me is the Samsung Smart Tv 2011 panel also LCD because it says LED:confused:

As mentioned earlier, it's to do with what backlighting the panel uses. Traditionally they used rows of flourescent tubes but now they're using LEDs hence LED.
