Are there any smart guys out there that can fill us in on the real world implications of this discovery? (minus the fact that it confirms our prev understanding of particles)

We can now build port replicators and tractor beams, also this allow us to get sustained warp drives :)

Well to be honest in everyday life, not much if anything at all. It just narrows down some theories, ie what direction some people have to go to find a unified theory.

Edit: Wait a minute.... It has not been confirmed yet so can still be anything. Its just that they found something with more or less the right values. Moving on...

No nothing of that sort, it really just fills a gap in our standard model of particle physics.

So what exactly is new with this announcement ?
Well, everything points towards the Higgs, they're just trying to see the spins. Spin 0, in fact. And then, they dance.

I don't see how the Higgs explains anything. If it decays after it's created then there's still no answer what gives particles their current mass.

You go tell all those hundreds(thousands?) of silly PhD physicists that Swa! Go tell them!

That's not what "high-horsing" is. Stop bleeping off like a teenager every time your dimwitted opinions are refuted...

You refuted ****ing nothing. As usual your response is just one of "oh he's ignorant, he knows nothing, we know everything even though we can't explain it, durr hurr." You're the only one with a dimwitted opinion.

No son, it is clear that you do not understand what it is that you're talking about. You have an incredibly basic grasp of the concept and extrapolate convoluted, flawed conclusions based on these. And just look at the way that you react - it is the behaviour of a pubescent warmonger. Control yourself, or risk a coronary before you hit adulthood...

It's considered a valid question. It's one of wanting to understand. Your response to it however conveys that you don't understand and you don't care to understand either. You just want to continue to believe whatever it is you were indoctrinated with even if it's wrong. That's the only explanation for attacking someone that brings up valid questions. Yet you'll be one of the first to proclaim "critical thinking." Well done for illustrating the idiot's guide to critical thinking.

Oh. I thought you were trying to dismiss it because of the lack of question marks. Apologies then.

What you said was similar to saying fish are not alive because they die if I take em out of the water, hence the mockery. If you asked, people might have treated you differently.
