The good news is they are asking Netfix to collect the e-tolls. But, and there is always a 'but', you can no longer buy a car without a TV licence.
They are also introduction a licence system for lawn mowers, this revenue will be used directly refloat SAA.
The proposed tax on sunshine, currently targeted at people you try to mitigate the Eskom failures, will be extended to anyone, without a shirt on, when the sun is out. This is intended to stimulate the local production of vitamin 'D' supplements.
So all in all, things are looking up!

Mods: please don't block me for misinformation. It's a joke. Really - it's not true yet.

@signates, how much were you paying for water before you dug your well in cape town?
November 2017 less than R5/kl including vat. R80 for 9kl.

Feb 2021 over R16/kl including vat. Over R100 and not even using their water anymore.

Edit

Used 100kl from my well in February. Would've cost me over R3k for water alone and another R3k for sewerage if I had to use CoCT water.

I'm pretty sure this won't stand up in con-court. A toll is not a fine or penalty for an offense.

In comparison, as a property owner I can no longer simply evict a tenant for non-payment of rent. The law has deemed that as an infringement on their rights to dignity and a place to stay. Likewise, you can argue that they cannot stop you from utilizing your car (by withholding the license) if you do not pay arbitrary tolls

100%.

Also, what about people who have lost their houses and jobs and are living out of their car, good luck trying to impound the car when it's where they're living. Also, how does one give proof of address for the license when you don't have an address, your reg number?

So much tax just to drive a car in banana republic.

Tax on purchase
Tax on petrol
Disc-Tax for the car each year
Drivers-Card-Tax for the driver every 5 years

(and not like the last two improves anything in anyway it actually should, not forgetting about the first two)

Could be worse. Could have MOT every year on top of that. And have mandatory, overpriced insurance.

I'm on this page as well, though just remember that your insurance policy, if you have one, probably has a clause about your vehicle being properly licensed in order to pay out any claims. Which shows the stupidity of this legislation in its lack of consideration for knock-on effects. I might as well also stop paying car insurance as well.
What, you still have insurance?

If the DA, things will get more expensive, if the EFF, everything will be free for all, if Mashaba, we will be running around like headless chickens.
I donno man...It seems to me Cape Town is run pretty well. Might not be perfect, but it's a hell of a lot better than up here in faakin Gauteng...

No it can't. Cmon. Why doesn't the supposed journalists who just copy and pasted this BS statement from Sanral do the same for the counter argument and copy and paste something from OUTA. Or is that saved for a 2nd clickbait article.

The voters drive taxi's, problem solved.

There was some news report I heard on the radio over the weekend, the majority use private cars to get the work, the taxi figure was lower, something like 32%.
