Discovery told me that Riots/Civil unrest is not covered.
I am just curious how a life insurer can even be allowed to not cover you under these circumstances.
I can understand maybe if you are actively participating in the riot/unrest, then sure, but what if you a bystander and get caught in the crossfire?
Do all life insurers have this type of clause or is it just discovery?

Personally, I would not be standing around as a bystander during riots or civil unrest.. I would get the f out of the area.. just seems irresponsible to want to stand and gawk at what's going on and for what..?

Watch the news afterwards or the hundreds of pictures or videos that will inevitably be on social media..

I don't think anyone wants to be out there, but the problem is that you can be caught off guard.
Last week was a prime example, as we heard the usual rumours of protests, but nobody expected it to go into full blown unrest and looting, especially when not much occurred on the Friday that it started.
Also, what happens if they come into your homes, as it still falls under a riot.

I am aware that you are not covered if you actively participate in the riots/protests because you are essentially committing a crime. You should also be covered if you exercise due care, i.e. get the heck out of dodge as best you can when riots/protests hit.
But not being covered if you are killed in a sudden uprising, never heard anything of the sort, at least not from my insurers. Then again you are with Discovery, there is a reason they were rated one of the worst insurers in the country.

Can you please copy their exact response here?

I have Death, dread Severe Illness and Trauma cover with the blue company. In the entire contract this is the only place anything related to this is mentioned

How are you supposed to avoid being exposed to a nuclear explosion? I suppose if that happens you've got much bigger problems but it just seems like something you wouldn't be able to foresee or avoid. Interesting

Well, I do sincerely hope that the rioters do have Riot cover. Shots were fired about 10M from my bedroom window. And those weren't baton rounds... And it was no rioter doing the shooting.

I just peaked out and asked if they needed any help...

Even your personal and business policy excludes nuclear and war.

It's a thing, some may well exclude certain acts of mass death/destruction - participant or victim

I think all mass casualty events are excluded. I mean if Koeberg goes POP! and all those Capetownians that are clients of this blue company end up dead or radioactive, then the blue company will run out of money and be bankrupted in short stead with all the payouts.
