Lights and Water avg.

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum location, as I am not exactly sure where to ask this.

So I spoke with a work friend and was shocked to hear for two people we pay 4k -3.5k a month on lights and water etc.
Rent itself is 5k.

2 people, 3x bedroom sectional title, water + electricity R800-R900 pm. Add levies, rates etc and it's more like R3500.

How much you pay is not determined on the number of people but how much you use.

How much water(in kl) and electricity(in kwh) are you consuming each month? The tariffs are also determined by your municipality, so where you live.

You could be one person running a smelter from home and have a bill of R10k per month so look at your usage.

We are 4 people in the main house with swimming pool and rent out our two bedroom flat to 4 people and our combined municipal account, this includes rates and taxes in between R5500 and R6000 per month.

I get 212 units from R300.

The electricity is about R800 pm and water being R200-ish.

So how do you know how much to pay?

I have a rental property I'm renting out and I send my tenant the amount for municipal services and include a screenshot of the municipal invoice.

Are you in a complex and is not also the levy that's included?

In Johannesburg, 840 gets me 500 units of electricity, about R400 water which is about 25kl, though this should hopefully go down a bit after fixing leaks and such.
Rates and taxes brings it up to just under 3k total.

If you are renting, why are you paying the levy? That should be for the owners account unless you agreed to paying the levy in the lease.

Seems about right to me.. My levies are R2200, Electrict is between R700 - R900 and Water is also R478. I stay in Morningside

Looking at your breakdown, it would seem you're being shafted if you're renting.
Levies should be for the owner of the unit to pay, not for you.
You're lights and water is a bit high for 2 people but not massively. You're being shafted by levies.

Pretty much the same our side. Winter out electricity goes up to around R1 600.
But then, I'm also that dad that goes around switching off all the lights in the house that don't need to be on, grumbling about people wasting my electricity.
