Lillian Ngoyi Street fix will cost R196 million

Johannesburg, Africa’s richest city, will spend R196 million rand rehabilitating a key road in its old central business district after a methane gas explosion in July.

The city expects that repairs to Lillian Ngoyi Street, formerly known as Bree Street, will conclude by the end of the year, it said in a statement Thursday.

Watch this space R196 million will just be the downpayment once the ANC cadres start doing the work costs will balloon way above that estimate...

My guess is they get as far as compacting the earth before they money runs out. Coalition squabbles break out over who's family business gets to win the new tender to tar the road. Things fall apart and months/years go by with no progress.

Eventually the Taxis do what Taxis do, and just start using the road anyway.

Seeing this, the people who spent far too much money on their 4x4 Double Cab only to drive around Sandton finally see the opportunity to make use of their overpriced urban cars and start using the unpaved road too.

Then everyone driving an old jalopy who isn't concerned about wear and tear follows.

Eventually everyone is using the un-tarred road and have long forgotten what it used to be like living under the oppressive regime of tar.

Decolonisation Successful, one road at a time.

Wonder how much simply maintaining things would have cost as an alternative to repairing things that go wrong.

ok, this is where everyone gives their guess as to what this fix will cost in the end. bonus points for guessing the completion date.

Get China to come fix it, they probably can do it for R100 mil and do it in under 3 Months.

I'm thinking 2.6 Billion and the road declared fixed in whatever state it's in by October 2026.

Already increased by R18m.

“We can guarantee you it will not be 18 months. We’ve got a clear interest as a city to show what we can do in a short space of time.”

Johannesburg Mayor Kabelo Gwamanda said while he understood the urgency of the matter, the city manager should not be put under pressure to complete this project.

Can't make this sh*t up, and can't expect a cadre to do his job without giving him ample time first to figure out how he's going to eat from this deal.

The face on this thing says it all.. the same face that has grade 10, ran an investment funeral scam and is now in charge of a R70Billion budget.

Imagine the amount President Moonshot would be responsible for when he takes over in a couple of months...
