Hi Guys,

I'm moving and need to transfer my line, I'm moving out of one suburb to another. Telkom informed me I cannot transfer ADSL aswell. I have to wait for the line to be installed first (1 December) and only then will I have to apply for ADSL all over again.

Can anyone that's been through this confirm that this is indeed true? Or perhaps give me some help with making this as smooth as possible.

A mate of mine moved up to JHB 6 months ago, and there hasn’t been anything about reapplying for the ADSL, it’s simply carrying over to his new address. he’s on contract (don’t know if you are and if that could be the difference) and while he waits for his ADSL to be set up (yup after 6 months, still waiting, and it looks like it’s going to still be long), he’s simply not paying.

Friend of mine moves from house A to house B in the same suburb (around 1km away). Telkom moves ADSL line takes a few weeks. Now he has to move back to house A. Two months and Telkom hasn't even installed normal phone line at their house. So yeah good luck with ur efforts.

ja i did this a little over 2 months ago now. It is a mission to say the least. All you can do is put your order ASAP before you move for the line to be activated and installed at the new address. I moved from Gardens to Sea Point in CPT. They have to wait for an open port blah blah blah.

One bonus is your line and dsl installation should NOT be charged for. it should all be free. Only pain is the wait at the new spot. I luckily had the line installed on the 18th Aug after placing the order on the 5th of July and moved in on the 1st Aug.

EDIT: oh yes, when you apply for the dsl, the phoneline forms part of the package. Of course you need a phoneline, but they activate that AND the DSL minutes after each other. I moved into a new block, i.e. no phonelines right....the oke took a total of 30mins to install the new phoneline and install the DSL. When you place the order, just ask for DSL, it automatically assumes you need a phoneline. if you don't they make the arrangements for you. thats my experience anyway.
