Linksys XAC1200 as modem + ASUS RT-AC68U firewall and AP

Greetings All,

So my Linksys XAC1200 is ... well a painful device. I bought it went my previous DSL modem/router died and I needed the Internet ASAP. The problem with it, besides lack of firmware updates from Linksys, is that the interface gets dog slows when the router is under normal use eg streaming and browsing, try to log into it and it sits and sits for about ~10 seconds then shows you the login screen. So I want to get away from it as much as I can and just have it be the modem to the ASUS device mentioned above. Would this just be a case of giving it a static IP on the network and then link the ASUS device via ethernet and let the ASUS device handle DHCP and so on? I am aware there is a DSL version of the ASUS device but I really like the idea of having DDWRT and really don't want to have to buy a new modem + the ASUS device.

Any clarity on the issue would be greatly appreciated :).

*edit*

NVM will rather just buy the DSL version and hope ASUS keeps me updated.

You can place the linksys modem in bridge mode(if it supports that) then dial the pppoe connection from the Asus router

I wouldn't place too much faith in updates, to be quite honest.

Rather put the Linksys in bridge mode, and let your DDWRT device manage the PPPoE connection to the Internet. Only slightly problematic thing about this is setting the DDWRT up to let you view modem stats, etc. i.e. the Linksys admin pages.
