1099... wow you are over 1000 years old?Been using Linux ecosystem since around 2003/4. But started tinkering around 1099. Still have my Linux handboek from 1999
So because your rubbishy old laptop (no specs) can't run google earth desktop (no graphics card specs) on linux (no specs), you can't recommend it?
- Old laptop
- Install Mint Xfce
- Do updates
- It installs new kernel
- Everything breaks
- Finds out grub isn't designed with fast boot in mind
- Change kernel to lower ver. branch
- Try use Google Earth desktop or watch videos
- Massive screen tearing on HDMI
- Manually add in dri3 to the intel config file
- Everything works
I hate Linux and I want to stomp it's head in. 8/10 would recommend it.
Do you have reading problems. So because your rubbishy old laptop (no specs) can't run google earth desktop (no graphics card specs) on linux (no specs), you can't recommend it?
I am baffled...
I wanted to comment yesterday but today I changed my mind.

Or thatthe user has RTFMThe assumption is that the user isn't an idiot and knows stuff.
Generally no, you see, there's some of us who learnt the hard way back in the day how computers actually work. So that is the pre-knowledge that makes Linux understandable. Kiddos who grew up on Windowze often fail miserably when exposed to Linux.Or thatthe user has RTFM
Try reading your own post and see if you understand it. This is bigal's variation on your post (this is real, you can find it on www).Do you have reading problems.

Why would I add specs. I didn't come here asking for your help.
Your problem there is RAM, very stingey with it. What's wrong with putting in another module?Try reading your own post and see if you understand it. This is bigal's variation on your post (this is real, you can find it on www).
Old netbook (15y old Samsung nc10, 2GB RAM, 160GB HDD replaced with 128GB SSD)
Install 32-bit Debian 12 Bookworm (netinstall) LXDE GUI
Everything works like a charm on Linux 6 kernel with everything up-to-date because of the netinstall
Finds out connman network manager is absolute rubbish
Change to Xfce GUI
Knowing the limitations of the HW, avoid anything too CPU intensive
Three tabs on FF makes browsing a nightmare (stick to two tabs)
Add Genie as an editor and I am good to go
Everything works
I love Linux and would recommend it to anyone.
I would rate it 9/10.
See what a difference a few extra words and a couple of LF characters make?
Erm, we are talking about a netbook here. Atom can only handle 2GB.Your problem there is RAM, very stingey with it. What's wrong with putting in another module?
FireFox uses 1GB of RAM easily with just 2 tabs open
