Hosting is easily hacked, and normally through an insecure web application. Got nothing to do with it being linux, could have happened on Windows hosting as well. Nothing can protect a server from a bad password or insecure web application. Looks like that site runs an outdated Joomla 1.5 (its at 1.7 now). Theres your answer right there.
