Linux or Windows training for starters?

I am looking to kick start a career in IT and have been asking around for info.
I have thus been advised to complete a Linux Administrator course 1st (instead of a Microsoft certification) as there is more scope with bigger companies and more demand.
Would your guys agree with such a view?

As a Linux Fanboi who works in a Linux world my advice - do the Microsoft Certification. Your looking at getting your foot in the door and M$ certification is the easiest way.

When I started in my job I did not even know how to logon to a Linux PC - you can learn things as you go.

The only problem with the MS certification (as with most of their products), is that you won't ever stop having to take it. They release a new certification every 2 - 3 years, which isn't a bad thing since you'll be forced to learn new things. But you're also going to pay for it every time.


Red Hat's, RHCE and Novell's Linux certification is accepted world-wide and changes much less than Microsoft's.

But as with anything, go with what you know best, and enjoy doing most

It really depends on the OP's current experience with PC's

I can administrate servers, doesn't mean I have a fancy certificate with watermarks and **** that says I can. Figured it out by myself.

So if the OP is already comfortable with MS based software and can figure out (and know the basics) of what he/she wants to do already, I think that the Linux route might be best to get your foot in the door.

However, I don't know the market for Linux admin's so not sure if it's the best to find a job rather quickly.
