"liquid damage" - second opinion

I got the “liquid damage” feedback from Vodacom on my N95 and they are refusing to honor the warrantee, even got a photo (normal use, no swimming, did not even take it to the beach, made myself a screen protector, the phone is well looked after)

Is there anywhere I can take the phone for a second opinion on whether the claimed liquid damage is what is in fact causing the screen not to work, it still takes and makes calls – the apparent corrosion shown may not be responsible for the dislpay failure I am having

With so many Nokia phones in SA, I find it shocking that there is no Nokia representative, I phoned Nokia Customer care, and got to a guy who barely speaks English – what a disappointment for the quality and worthless warrantee of the phone

If you have a pic with the corrosion proving the damage why the extra effort?

That might be your problem, the vapor inside those things can cause liquid damage.

These days its the easy excuse to get out of fixing the phone. All the SP's do it.

I know Rectron did it to me as well on a Mio A700, they also sent photo's - I opened the phone, and guess what, no damage as per the photo. I actually held the phone next the the screen, it was clearly a different phone - I ordered a screen of ebay and did it myself - that was my last purchase at Rectron.

I would've opened a case of fraud at the cop shop...

because

Because if my car’s exhaust is rusted, it does not mean that it is causing the wipers not to work………..- i.e. simply pointing out corrosion “somewhere” on the circuitry, does not mean its causing the failure

- and they assured me the pic is of my phone, "otherwise it's fraud"

Are there no independent cell phone repair shops in SA?

The VodaCare shop in Pietermaritzburg repaired my 'water damaged' phone after I insisted. They weren't prepared to guarantee the repairs though, which wasn't an issue for me. It didn't cost a huge amount and was a lot easier than trying to source the part I needed to fix it myself.

SO you booked it in for one problem, probably something small and it came back liquid damage.

If there is corrosion somewhere it means liquid got to that part of the phone, so they wont even bother with the initial problem.

You can also go back to them and say I booked it in for a keypad problem and now the screen doesnt work...

So if the pics are from your phone, and theres is corrosion, its liquid damaged.
GO to a Paki repair centre, not sure if you have them, they can just open it and look if it is you circuit board thats messed up, if it is, get your insurance to get you a new one, if the pic is of another phone...
you can complain.

Voda'care' are worthless. Same problem my P990's jog dial broke after they didn't repair it correctly the first time. They said it was water damage and they wouldn't fix it - the two problems are unrelated but any excuse not to honour their supposed 'second year warantee' which is a joke if you ask me.
You're lucky though because when I got my phone back they'd damaged it opening it, didn't reassemble it correctly and the phone no longer picks up the network correctly - I even complained on Hellopeter but they refused to do anything. I'll never have anything to do with Vodacom ever again after such pathetic service.
