How to Spot a Fake News Website

Don't Fall for Fake News Websites

Don't Share Fake News

The following sites are fake news. And I don't mean fake news as in opinionated pieces, I mean actually 100% fake news. Don't fall for manufactured outrage.

SA Based Fake News Sites:

• African News Updates
• blackopinion.co.za
• mzansitimes.com
• Nationalnewsbulletin.com
• News24-TV
• Pretorialive
.....

Isn't that "BlackOpinion.co.za" the site of "Black First, Land First" by Andile Mngxitama and his friends?

Wow! Even reputable magazines can fall for fabricated news stories: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-46624297

German news magazine Der Spiegel has sacked an award-winning staff writer after accusing him of inventing details and quotes in numerous stories.

Claas Relotius "falsified articles on a grand scale and even invented characters", Der Spiegel said.

Among the articles in question are major features that had been nominated for or won awards, the magazine added.

Mr Relotius, 33, admitted deceiving readers in some 14 stories published in Der Spiegel, the magazine said.
An investigation into a story by Mr Relotius about immigration and the US-Mexican border revealed that he had fabricated information about seeing a hand-painted sign in a town in Minnesota that read: "Mexicans Keep Out."

Fraudulent information appeared in other stories including one about inmates at the US military prison at Guantanamo Bay and another about the US NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick.

CNN..... After 2 years of pushing and publicising how confident are they in RussiaGate and they have evidences and "witnesses" - last Friday they have been left red faced (or not really) after the Mueller report concluded there was no collusion between the orange man and Russia..
Still no apology to their "fateful" supports..
At last Orange man was right calling them "Fake News".
Not to touch-white helmets, Gas attacks and so on..

As have many mainstream news sources. It's a different world now, and the war against Fake News is not going away any time soon. The credibility of journalists has now become immensely important, and the rule of thumb is to question everything and deman corroboration.

"As sea temperatures rise, the air becomes more dry and humid, influencing hotter weather patterns. This is responsible for making our hot summers even hotter and severely limits the amount of rainfall across the country."

Firstly, they claim the weather phenomenon, El Niño, will cause the air to become BOTH "dry and humid" simultaneously - obviously just made that up.

Secondly, they claim it is responsible for "making our hot summers even hotter and severely limits the amount of rainfall across the country". This is false. A rise in sea temperatures causes water vapour to rise. The warmer temperature makes the atmosphere more unstable (vortices form) and that, mixed with moisture, makes rain... lots and lots of it. It's also well known that El Niño causes monsoons (lots of rain). This "journalist" just made up something to scare people into thinking there will be a drought.

The rest of the site, too, is riddled with obviously fake or plagiarised stories.

Having a 35 year relationship with the media, the truth is that fake is the order of the day, and 90% of the truth end up on the editors office floor. John Swinton was spot on then and nothing has changed other then the depth of the swill being printed.
