For those of us who don't have access to a TV or YouTube or a radio, could we get some commentary please

The link provides a live stream of commentary by reporters.

Basically, there is planned maintenance in winter, they will try and do it with minimal disruption, they will try and keep the power on during work hours to minimize disruption to business, most load shedding will be at peak 5-10pm.
Most will be on the weekends.

Molefe: Tariff application - our actual application is 6.8% on the base of what we do. Then we applied for additional money for diesel to avoid load shedding. We were only granted R1.5bn, which is not enough - we use it in one month. It is finished. If we don't get an addition R10bn for the rest of the year, then we will go into load shedding quicker. We will find a way around it. We were also granted R14bn for IPPs for connection, which we don't have a problem with. There is an environmental levy, which is not for us. The extra money is for extraordinary circumstances we find ourselves in.

Government must cut ties Eskom and privatise it. Only solution. This will create more jobs, competition will be rife and it's a win/win.

Wow - Slide 17 --> Duhva boiler went down March 2014.
They are ALMOST at the point of getting started at getting a new one.

Very very sad indictment of Eskom's poor leadership.

Also throughout- Eskom supplied 96% of the demand... what on earth can that possibly mean? What a weird way to say anything. There is no way of knowing how much power could have been used employing people, making them more comfortable etc... if it wasn't for the uncertain mess that Eskom is in.
It completely neglects the amount of power produced by people and things going off-grid and/or people off-setting or reducing their usage.

Some other Weird things to say...

Stage 3 used to be 4,000MW, now it's only 3000... forgetting that there used to be Stage 3A and Stage 3B... now there is a stage 4?!

Also - basically they are only even trying to get to 96% during the peaks... so that means Stage 1 or 2 every morning and evening?

you are stuffed if you are 'lucky' and have your schedules recurring in the morning/evening throughout the week, that means they may not supplying only 4% of the country, but you or your incidence of blackouts will be significantly higher than that.
