I am a student in Cape Town and have been playing online poker for almost a year. I am quite keen to try out some live poker. Being a student, I don't have enough money to play at Grand West or the other games in town.

I want to know if anyone has a regular game going (tournament or cash game) that isn't too high a buy-in or if anyone is keen to start one with me?

Grandwest no longer offer player poker. Just spoke to my poker mates (big players) and they say it's only home games and invite games left. There was a club in sea point but that's closed too.

Yeah it's a pity about the Grand West. Stupid that they closed it and made a new section for MVG Card Holders. I mean GW could have at least made a smaller section just for live 4 tables cash games max.

Now if you want to play Live Poker you have to go to JHB.

Yeah they weren't making anything from it and it was keeping guys who spend big away from the tables etc. Real pity but doubt they will reverse the decision.

Grand West should just do the following:
1) Set the Cash Game hours 7pm - 2am everynight
2) Have a Max 3-4 Tables only (player plays on 1st come 1st serve basis)
3) No Poker Tournaments

They used to open just for like 5 ppl during weekdays and the dealer is wasting his valuable time.

Online poker is not legal in SA. Nor is any other online gambling....except lotto.

We try play regularly it's a small cash game - but we struggle to get players - but it's a good level of poker - small stakes 50c/R1 or R1/R2 - but there are often straddles and money to be made.

You take small stakes to a whole new level, I virtually throw away 50c pieces because they are just about worthless, 20 x 50c can barely get me a tin of coke or chocolate bar these days.

I just had 3 days of Poker at the Casino's in Gauteng this past weekend. Be prepared to have a least R3k at a time.

Well let me roll out a scenario for you:
- 8 handed
- Small Blind (50c)
- Big Blind (R1)
- Straddle (2)
- Late Position Raise (R8.5)
- Button 3-bets (R22)
- folds to Straddle (Calls)
- Initial Raiser (Calls)

R66.5 in the pot pre-flop.

We play small stakes but it doesn't mean it's not fun. We not doing it to make money - we doing it cos we love playing poker and enjy the social aspect and are generally all mates. No one is keen to see someone walk away down R3000.
