Live Setup Help Please - Xbox Live Noob

I have just got my son an Xbox 360. I have managed to connect it through his PC to the rest of our home network via a bridged ethernet/wireless setup. I have run the test for Live and all seems OK ( after it downloaded a whack of updates ) - everything "confirmed" and the NAT thingy is in an "Open" state. So it looks like we are "through" to Live.

The thing I don't get is the gamertag/profile bit, having read of people here ending up with two separate profiles. I am not even sure my boy has fully set up a local profile. What do I have to do gamertag/profile-wise before doing a "real" connection to Live, to prevent future hassles?

Congrats,

It's better to go to www.xbox.com and create a profile there, and then use the "recover gamertag" option on the 360.

The thing to remember is to set your locale to the UK and set the Postal code of your address to a UK postal code (just google for one) Otherwise it won't let you connect. Likewise for adding credit card details if you're going to do that.
