The next step is to submit the extradition application. We don’t know the status on this, but without this step there is no purpose to the two Gupta brothers being arrested. Basically, the UAE passed the ball back into our court.
Perhaps our best hope is for the anc trying to use this to score points, but still will they do something complex properly for once?

Using them as a smokescreen? Next thing you'll be telling us they are the fall guys.
Please, we call them escape goats in this here parts..

Also, the timing, could it be that Squirrel has just played his trump card? Counter Fraser the medical parole blesser & fire shots across the bow of the RET team in one go?
Would you really put it past the panther to not play the 'take me down & I'll burn the rest of you with me' card? He whom looked the other way with Zuma's corruption? LOL!

I think you overestimate Cyril's power if you think he could pull this off with an angry click of his fingers. Man can't even get **** done at home. If anyone has played a trump card, it's the RET crowd who must've caught wind of this a few days earlier.

I think this is very genius move from RET crowd. They are all a Gupta crowd and it must be absolutely masterstroke on their part to get Guptas arrested in Dubai via threat to Cyril.

I think Machiavelli had nothing on RET crowd.

Techcentral posted a nice outline,

Gupta arrests: what happens next?

...

The arrests come a year after the UAE ratified an extradition treaty with South Africa. President Cyril Ramaphosa’s administration first asked the Emirati authorities to extradite the two brothers in 2018, and the US imposed restrictions ranging from visa bans to asset freezes on them and another brother — Ajay Gupta — in 2019. The UK followed suit last year.

...

Legal file

The arrests reflect the “continuous efforts” by the UAE to combat money laundering, the Dubai police said in a statement.

The UAE’s legal processes require a country seeking extradition to provide a legal file containing charges and evidence within 60 days of an arrest, said Habib Al Mulla, a partner at the Dubai-based Baker & McKenzie Habib Al Mulla law firm, who isn’t part of the case. The Public Prosecution would then make a determination as to whether the extradition goes ahead, and the accused could potentially file an appeal, he said.

There's still the matter of who kept his presidency, and still does. King will king.

We all know what's going to happen once the Gupta's land in SA.

1. They are going to plead innocence and victimization.
2. Those high up in positions of power will get to them first and offer amazing deals in return for their silence.
3. Evidence will mysteriously be lost in building fires or just plain vanish.
4. Witnesses will suddenly find themselves dead or suddenly being able to talk (sick, mental illness etc etc)
5. One or all Gupta's will fall ill and spend the next 2 years in and out of hospitals and luxury hotel tennis courts and state dinners.
6. Suddenly evidence will emerge that the Gupta's were not the real criminals but a "dark force", "foreign agents" and <insert whatever other cosmic mystery has pinned the blame on the poor Gupta's>
7. Then a deal is arranged whereby the Gupta's remain in indefinite house arrest (more tennis courts and state dinners)
8. Another 2 years and nobody even remembers who they were as they slip out of the country and vanish or are seen walking their dogs with Shaik in Berea.

These guys have this thing all planned out, ironed out and zipped up in the handbag. They know how to play the system.

Open Secrets also shares my view that our state, or rather the NPA, was caught by surprise. The NPA already took the position that the public won't be privy to the sensitive process which I think is nonsense since this is in the public interest. At least an update on where they are and whether the actual extradition process started or is it still but mere talks. In the case the NPA is caught by surprise, I won't be surprised that someone initiated Order 66.

Good input by Open Secrets. All I know is this could all change come to the ANC presidential election outcome.
