How's the case going? How long has it been going?
Struggling to figure it out after reading some articles, probably longer than a year I think. Not sure if the NPA tried to prosecute them but fell short (again), or I they just failed to act on the matter. I know that Afriform as the result decided to privately prosecute the case. Seems they appeared in court on 03 June 2022, so the case is still ongoing now.

Oh definitely, imagine if they testify against him somehow or give evidence incriminating him even more...

I think they'd be willing to cut a deal to burn Zuma. They always talk if you dangle a big enough carrot or a stick which you threaten to hit them with.

Definitely. Would like to see how Manyi and Zuma would react to that.

Probably say some **** like "Guptas were WMC all along" or something.

Word on the streets is that Zuma put the screws on Ramaphosa via Fraser and under duress, Ramaphosa used some of his farm money to ask dubai people to arrest. Zuma is quite something actually - even better chess than Cyril.
Spot on Surface! Everyone thinks Zuma is a dummy. While he might not be able to pronounce long amounts of figures, he did head up Intelligence back in the day. His ability to spy, propaganda, counter-intelligence, and worm his way in and out of situations is pure mastery. Never underestimate this dude.

No, come on. No judge in their right mind would let these idiots out on bail after fleeing and evading justice a previous time?

Unfortunately I do not share the same optimism as you in the South African judicial system.....

Bail or not is not a punitive measure. I expect them to be out on bail (and out of jail) for at least 20 years "if" they get extradited from dubai to SA.

Bail may not be a punitive measure, but granting bail is predicated on a person not being a flight risk, and the Gupta's have clearly evidenced that they are a flight risk...

But in saying that, I wouldn't be surprised to see a judge give them bail of some retarded figure like R100k or something stupid and then within hours of walking out the court room they'll "vanish" again.

If they make it to South Africa and end up in court, I am 90% certain that their representing attorney will be Dali Mpofu, he will run circles around the legal system and NPA, and they will be free. Unless he is up against some of our top private prosecutors we have no chance. Also there will probably plenty of threats and intimidation against those prosecuting attorneys, so we first need to find some with a pair of massive balls to accept the case.
If running circles means endlessly talking schit until the judges get bored, then sure...

Wake me up when you have figured out a legal strategy to defend someone as corrupt as Zuma, I have serious appreciation of the chore Dali has when it comes to Zuma.

In a ideal world the task of any lawyer representing Zuma would only be limited to arguing mitigating factors for the sentence, in fact that's where the arguments should begin, they would walk in, Zuma's names be called and the guilty verdict handed, thereafter his lawyer would come in.

I wonder if I'll still be alive when they're finally prosecuted. Doubt it.

I see the NPA took the position not to share details with the media concerning the extradition process. I have mixed thoughts about this, as it could be either good or bad, but since an extradition treaty is in place there is no time to lose. Our state needs to make the extradition application at the soonest.

NPA engaging relevant authorities on Gupta arrest

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) said it is engaging with the relevant authorities regarding the arrest of the two Gupta brothers in the UAE.

"Extradition is a complex process involving many role players, including the executive. It would therefore not be appropriate for the NPA to discuss the details of that process in the media but can confirm that we are engaging with relevant authorities in SA and UAE," it said in a statement on Tuesday.

"The NPA has an experienced team of internal and external experts who are working closely with law enforcement and our partners in the criminal justice system on the matter," the statement added.

I can only hope that the process remains in the public interest.
