I'm sure you guys will go through - that Roma defence is rubbish and against an attack like Pool's there's no way they keep them from scoring like they did Barca. Liverpool really ought to have won the league with the team they have.

Of course, anybody would take it... Barca took it as well, and they are out. Those 2 away goals could prove costly. If Roma score early or score 1st, it will be a nervous time for Liverpool fans

Barca underestimated Roma - we didn't and wont.

Barca's 4 in the first leg was hugely flattering since it contained two own goals.

Also, Barca rocked up for the 2nd leg as if all they needed to do was turn up and then couldn't switch gears.

Edit: Doesn't mean that we fans won't be nervous as hell until that final whistle blows

caveat: in the Champions League

Porto had a similarly proud record until we showed up

Point taken but your defence is still worrying me... Conceding goals when you are cruising is a problem.

To be fair, I thought the penalty was harsh. We got a play-on advantage when they handled in their 18 yard box in the first half, so there is that.

It's not just one game I am talking about. It's been happening a lot. Happened at West Brom as well. It's a worrying trend.

WBA was disgrace (albeit with a completely new backline (Gomez; Klavan; Moreno and VVD playing on the other side) in addition to having made 5 changes to the team).

Roma are no mugs - don't let the 5 we put past them fool you - that forward, Dzeko is lethal.

We LFC fans constantly fret over Lovren - he is always just a brain fart away from messing up.

The penalty was ridiculously soft

It's lovely that you think its a trend and it must come from you choosing to watch that other red team's games all the time.

This has been Liverpool's achilles heel for ages. Literally ages. Fact of the matter is, the improvement since we signed VVD is astonishing.
Sure, we watch games with our hearts in our mouths, we've been conditioned that way for years... But... It isn't every game now. More and more you get the feeling that we got this and the trend is slowly winding down.

I like VVD's steadiness and influence. Lovren can be infuriating... When he's good, he's so good, but he loses concentration and we pay for it every time. TAA is still a kid, but he's going to be the business, and, were it not for Mo, Robertson would be my player of the season. Karius is *way* better than Migs and that helps too, and all of that is starting to add up.
That said, I'm still up for a big spend on a keeper in the off-season and I'll take some of that Becker action, even if we put five past him last night.

Actually, no. I watch quite a bit of Liverpool these days. This issue has been around for a while. Maybe trend was the wrong word I used.

Exactly.

I hope you guys progress. I genuinely do. It's just infuriating to see that you could have closed out games with clean sheets and almost inevitably give it up. Roma were outplayed last night and scored two. Same at West Brom. I'm sure we can find examples all day long. But I do see signs of improvement. I'm sure next season, your defense will be better.

City has a better team than Liverpool, cmon man... Only Salah and Mane might get into the City team, maybe Firmino...

Tip of the cap to you sir.

Yep. It takes time to build a great defence but I think we're getting there. To be fair, I think 18/19 is going to be like 17/18 between you, us and City, but with the volume turned up to 11.

Lack of squad depth bites us in the ass again. Should have taken that two chances though.
