South African farmers warn load-shedding threatens food security

Eskom's rotational power cuts pose a significant threat to the country's food chain, with farmers estimating losses of up to half of their yields due to load-shedding.

South Africa has come out of a heatwave that recently hit the country. This, combined with Eskom implementing higher stages of load-shedding, is a significant challenge for the agriculture sector.

Farming is a tough job, and farmers have enough problems as it is with many unmitigable risks. They are also being murdered in numbers every year, due to the government that has actively and purposefully dismantled all forms of rural security. The looting and change in focus of the Land Bank doesn't help, and the recent racist legislation and racist bills do no make anything easier.

Now comes the loadshedding, which smacks of the government forcing the public sentiment to soften towards alternatives like the Turkish powerships, which we all know is for one reason: To line the coffers of the elite ANC cadres.

Farmers do not need a government that is actively hostile towards them, but sadly all evidence points that way.

If I were a farmer, I would consider relocating to friendlier territory, like Argentina.

Just finished watching this latest ANC success story: Last year 7 children in the Eastern Cape died of Severe Acute Malnutrition (basically starvation) because of Government's ineptitude.

All this while the EC's Premier spends 87 million on a beach promenade in East London. But that's not all, as usual, Mabuyane sought a pre-emptive court order against being investigated by the SIU & Hawks for malfeasance. Same after looting winnie mandela's memorial service fund, and same when his qualifications were under scrutiny.

But we don't need food security we can just print more money and buy more food from America. If food security was important it would have taken precedence over land reform and renaming Cities and Towns. That is clearly more important then safe roads and functional police force, hospitals and food security.

This like any other crisis can be blamed on minorities mismanaging their own unemployment time. They can clearly work for free and solve all this.

It is not like AfriForum has money to buy farms and put minorities to work you know. Those landcruisers are far more important.
